HEADPHONES

I need new headphones for my EX II. It seems from what I've read the the Gray Ghosts are excellent but the frequency range, if I'm understanding it correctly, does not cover the spectrum of EX II frequency capabilities. Any advice on the Gray Ghosts or any other really good headphones is appreciated.

I recently picked up a pair of Black Widows. They block out a great deal of ambient noise; like being in a sound proof booth. Great for working the beach with all the wind and waves. Don't have to have the volume up which is great for my ears :)

I see a lot of Grey Ghosts around too.

I need some more headphones also. The ones I got with the Exp sound ok but the %^&^% cord is to short.

u have a great detector so buy some great phones for it...........it will make a great difference.

i can only give u advise like Joe, i use the detector pro Black Widows..............but i only hunt the damp sand and the waves and they knock down all the noise for me

I have heard good things about the Killer Bees that jimp mentions and i have read some good things about the new ones by sun-ray. they sound pretty nice

see black widows attached

Black Widow is engineered for detectorists with challenged hearing and for hunting environments with high ambient noise levels.

Black Widow headphones were designed to accommodate the professional detectorist with special hearing requirements and for environments with high ambient noise levels. Large extended muffs are designed to block ambient noise to a higher degree for huntsites in proximity to urban traffic and surf roar. The Black Widow contains a dual mini-toggle switching system like our famous Gray Ghost Ultimate. One switch provides greater compatibility with detector audio systems and the other switch allows signal limitation when extreme volume is not required. Also provided are two independent volume controls for those detectorists with unequal hearing ability in each ear. You still get our "industry first" quality components, design and construction without compromise. Black Widows are "deadly", but guaranteed not to "Sting" you!
CAUTION: The significant volume output of the Black Widow compared to our main line of headphones requires us to warn the consumer of potential eardrum damage if detector signal is not regulated to tolerant levels. Without the limiting circuit engaged, we recommend starting with a minimal headphone volume control setting with detector volume at maximum, then gradually increase headphone volume controls as needed and tolerated.

Technical Specifications:
Dual rotary volume control with "stay put" segmented "click" positioning.
Selector switch for metal detector compatibility with all single-output metal detectors without adapters.

Has anyone ever tried the Bose noise cancelling headphones. Expensive but I have a pair I,ve never used.

I have koss ur 30 for my explorer II than seem to find me alot of coins. Other than louder volume (that part is great for me with the koss) what real advantages do other headphones give?

You can hear the slightest whisper of a sound with real good headphones. I really didn't think it would make a difference, but the BW's I got are outstanding. (Max convinced me to buy them :) ) Aside from being real quiet, they're very comfortable to wear.

Try the Gray Ghost "Nugget Buster NDT's." They have no limiter which will allow you to use full volume when needed. You should always adjust to your own hearing needs and consider noise levels. Explorer II's have a built in sound suppressor, so limiters aren't needed. Good hunting, David @ Dixie

Most top "metal detector headphones" come with a lifetime warranty. This is a great feature being that headphones take a lot of abuse. Features can include single or dual volume controls; compatibility switch (stereo to mono); Limiter/Clipper switch (insures against extreme volume increase on large targets, preventing damage to your hearing. Can be turned on or off); detented volume switches; dual swivel points on the earmuffs (allows for a more comfortable fit); ridged headband (keeps your phones from falling off your head); coiled cable; push button or toggle switch mode selectors. Lastly, the speakers. There are several variations depending upon what style, quality or tone the manufacturer chooses. EVERYONE has different hearing needs. What headphone works great for one person, may not be correct for the next person. Choose a headphone that fits YOUR needs and not what "the other guys are using." Good hunting, David @ Dixie

For me its the background noise. I live in the greater boston area, where there is plenty of background noise. Koss are comfortable and clear, but I do believe gray ghost does a far better job of eliminating background noise. HH Kidd
