Headphones???

JAKETHESNAKE

New member
Im looking to get some new headphones. Im sure this has been talked about before and im not wanting to start any :argue: just want to know if anything favors the ETRAC???
I guess my biggest question is do other brands of phones have different tones or are they all of the the same??
On another note went to a older house in town asked if they minded if I MD she said I could, but I was too late someone had already been there and found everything. I said oh okay and she said good luck and
first hole I dug was a 1943 MERC right next to the side walk :yo:

I have been very happy with the Sunray Pro Golds! Sound great, and very comfortable,IMHO. I am sure you will get a lot of very good suggestions!

There are many good headphones out there. The sponsors can answer any question about which headphones sound the best. I like DetectorPro brands. The Sunray headphones are good as well. I also have a pair of old RATS that I like. Too bad the guy went out of business. About the only headphones I personally don't like are the ones that come with the E Trac. They sound great, but they just get pulled around too much. I need a pair that has a more snug fitting. But everyone is different. You will get very many different opinions with a question like you asked.

I have Grey Ghost NDT's that I like.....they seem ( to me ) much clearer than other's I've used & they have individual volume controls.

I asked the same question about headphones a few seasons ago ...
A lot of people really like the Grey Ghost's headphones on the E-Trac - that's what made me decide to get a pair of Grey Ghost - "Ultimate's" two years ago - their fantastic !
Everyone's head is shaped a little different - if possible - go to local dealer and try a few different types of headphones on and see what set is the most comfortable to you.

Much can depend on hearing or how much you've lost! The Grey Ghost line delivers highs that I like as my high range is not so hot. I also like one sided so I can hear what's going on around me. So I use the Rattlers. That way I can hear critters of all kinds and what the E-Trac is saying as well.

I use Grey Ghost Ultimate with my Etrac. The stock phones that comes with the Etrac are so so. Grey Ghost Ultimate or Sunray pro are both good choices.

I HATE to be tethered to the machine by a chord, so I use Wireless Headphones...I currently use a pair of Radio Shack wireless behind the head type...You cannot get these in the stores anymore (discontinued)...Auvio still makes a few sets, but they can also be hard to find...TDK makes an excellent set, but they are like $250...When the day ends, it is a matter of personal preference, but I must say also, that I am not a big fin of the KOSS UR-30s that came with the E-TRAC (cord to short, fits too loosely)

Hey Jake,

Good that you weren't deterred hunting that old house. Nobody finds everything as you found out for yourself.

Hunted an old house several years ago. The owner, the grandfather, had passed away and the family was at the property evaluating things when I stopped by and asked to hunt the yard. They said I would be wasting my time as grandpa was an expert coinhunter himself and had hunted the yard so many times over the years there wasn't anything left to find. I told them I didn't mind trying my luck. They told me to go ahead and before long they left.

The yard was quite small but I found a 1916-S, and two 1917-S Mercury dimes, an 1891-S V Nickel, an 1898 IH and 1916-S and 1926-D wheaties. All the targets were recovered with my hole hog and were between 6" and 9" deep and easy targets. Apparently, they were just out of reach of the detector Grandpa had used.

I consider it a challenge if the yard has been hunted before and many of them have been.

As for headphones, I have an old pair of Koss TD81's that I loved because they have separate volume adjustment and seemed to have perfect impedance matching with my old Explorer XS and now my E-trac. I can hear every little bit of electronic noise going on with the detector with great clarity. The ear pads have turned rock hard and don't stay on so well anymore. I have the factory supplied headphones, which I think are marginal at best, but better than an external speaker. Another set of headphones I have right now are OK, but not great. The audio output of many of these new headphones is muted or muffled and not crystal clear at all. I like crystal clear. Once you try a good set of headphones it is hard to use anything else.

Good luck with your search. Let us know what you decide on.

I have two pair: Sunray's pro golds and a set of BlackWidows. Both are outstanding but I prefer my BlackWidows more because the block out more noise than the Sunrays pro golds. You can't go wrong with any of the top of the line headphones.

Absolutely awesome folk's :yo:
Thanks for your input's. Sounds like I need to go to my dealer and just see what fits my big boxed head the best.
