I just got the Mine lab Explorer Se it came with Koss headphones. What are the best headphones to use for detecting? Thanks for all replys.

Hello Irish, There is nothing wrong with you Koss Headphones. They are tuned for your Explorer. A fair while ago I E-Mailed the chap who owns and makes Ratphones, about supplying me with a pair in Australia, His advice was, That there was nothing wrong with the Koss, only that they were not as robust as the Ratphones. I have been using mine for 4 yrs and have not had any problems with them. They have been worn for 3-4 days a week and 6-8 hours a day, no problems. Also Koss have a life time Guarantee. I Have high range hearing loss, I don't hear the phone ring if I am further than 10' from it, but I have no problems using the Explorer and the Koss headphones. I don't dispute that you would hear things differently with other headphone, BUT, when it comes down to it , I don't think you will find any more. I know this will probably cause an uproar, but that's what I have discovered, That you will not have any more in you bag at the end of the day. You can alter the sounds by the controls on your detector to suit your hearing any way. In the end, It's up to you, but why wast money, after all, Isn't that what your trying to find. HH

Let's give a hand to SunRay Gold's too..................:clapping:

The original EX XS Clarions(I think) were a little ...hmmm...let's say......inadequate, but the UR30's are pretty hard to beat for clarity and range when using them on them all generation Explorers. They're pretty comfortable and I have put mine through some tough use. I use them on my Eric Foster PI Deepstar, White's DFX and any other metal detector that will take 'em.

BUT

Of course there are a variety of other good headphones around that might just suit your needs better.

I have had Grey Ghosts for over ten years and they have been great from my Sov to the XS. I broke them once and Detector Pro fixed the and sent them right back at no charge. They were over five years old at the time.

I have been using the Grey Ghost Ultimate for several years with my explorers, had good service with few complaints BUT if you've got the extra cash some of the highest rated phones are d/c s. The brand the pilots use. Check out the site, compare the specs with the Grey Gs. http://www.davidclark.com/index.html 2 models 10 s/h or 10s-DC

Found out about this somewhere while on-line. Google Ratphones and go to the technical section. There you will find a complete explanation about what makes headphones tick and how some are better than others. The data is not necessarily pushing Ratphones either. I think if I had read this before I got some after market phones, I might have made a different choice. Jim
