Headphones with the 705?

Ladies and Gents, is there a benefit to using headphones with the Xterra 705? Besides hearing the iffy sounds and no outside noise. Is there a benefit to battery life or what other benefits may there be?
Thank for your repsonses.

Definitely!
It will stretch your batteries probably another 25%. And there are subtle audio nuances that you can't hear w/o them that will help distinguish trash from treasure.

A side benefit, is not attracting too much attention.

Headphones really help with conserving the batteries besides allowing you to hear the fainter, deeper, targets along with not drawing attention to yourself or annoying others that may be nearby. For the past 45 years, I have never hunted without headphones. Hope this helps...

Yep youll never hear the fainter signals without headphones and even more so if you hunt where you can hear cars passing by or other outside noises...even at the ocean the wind and waves block out the lighter signals. I always use headphones.

always detecting without for 4 years, now i use one and i don't want to change, it really help with small signals.

A resounding yes and just like hi-fi speakers, the cheap ones will not allow you to hear important nuances. I've learned this the hard way recently.

IMO, headphones are the way to go. I didn't spend a ton on designer headphones, I spent $25 on a light pair of KOSS'. I usually hunt in a group of 2 or 3, and others don't use headphones. It is sometimes distracting when others aren't using them, but more importantly, using them doesn't attract attention when in a park. Especially with kids around, the beeping seems to attract their attention.

I think headphones are a real need in metal detecting. They help you hear those faint targets that can be muffeled by the sound of waves crashing or car going by, kids screaming ect. They also keep unwanted attention to you while out detecting. Nothing like walking aound beeping a horn, People might think your looking for attention out there honking away.

Thanks to all whom replied. I always used them with my Etrac, and I will continue with the 705. Two different battery systems, so did not know if it would extend battery life or not, but from what i hear from everyone here, it is a no brainer.
Thanks again, and keep your coils to the soil....
