Headphones vs. Ear Buds

landman

Member
Until the metal detecting world gives us the choice of blue tooth headphones
on all major models, my preference during certain applications
is to travel or hunt light weight. Has anyone with a 1/8" or 1/4" jack metal detector
used something other than over the ear sound insulating headphones?
Ear buds?
Behind the head slimline?
Something else?
What were your experiences? Thanks.

Most of the time i use the full cup headphones, but when its say hot or require a lightweight backup set of headphones the best ones that i have found are the XP wired backphones, these are not only very light for hot summer days, the sound quality is totally amazing for such a cheap set of headphones. You would expect the performance for the price to be low quality that is not the case here.

Cannot speak from users across the pond but i guess they are the most popular backup and main use headphones in the UK,just proves that you can get good sound performance without the high cost that is normally attached to detecting headphones.

Another great thing with these headphones is the fact they will give good sounds for most detectors and they also have a volume control on them as well.

Ditto to the XP wired backphones plus to any CTX users , they fold up to nothing and are wired appropriately to shut off the external speaker if you want to plug them directly into the detector,,,, and have a cord that's longer than the short one that comes on earbuds.

I use in-ear buds with wireless to the machine setup utilizing the below products. However, any quality ear bud would work or even full over ears, I ran a set of Grey Ghosts with the radio and was just as efficient at the earbuds.. just can not stand over ears with glasses..

Earbuds start to bother me after awhile.

If you want an inexperensive set of earphones that work very well and are lightweight, take a look at the Garrett TreasureSound Headphones.

I use earbuds most of the time with my Deus. I have not tried cheap ones; I have a set of nice Shures that bring in all the tones well enough for me. When it's cold I will use the Sunray Golds HPs some, but don't like heavy cords and large connectors.

Another fan of the Deus backphones, although most seem to prefer the larger WS5's. For my other machines I use these Maxell SL3's. they have an adjustable band so you don't need to jam them in your ears to keep them in place. I wear a baseball cap over them to keep them snug. $5 at Drug Mart and the sound is actually decent for detecting. For noisy sites I'll bring out the full-cup headphones.
