Headphones? Or Not?

I got headphones with my detector, but have never used them. Do most of you use them? I like to keep an eye out around me and it seems it would be easy to have someone sneak up on you. Not paranoid, just cautious.

Head phones for me are a absolute must. To many of those faint whispers (usually older coins) simply will get missed. There is wind, car traffic and frequently talking that can hinder hearing a target. And, the beep, beep, beep for people near by cam be ammoying without their use. And they improve battery life. Mike that is a question many have asked , yes you do need to be aware of your surroundings at all times if you are in areas of possible crime or even in the wild areas . there are options to choose from as well they have headphones that only have one ear cup so leaves the other clear for other noises . this is something that you will figure out as you go because you did not state how long you have been detecting . I myself have been at it for 30 yrs and so far knock on wood only had one encounter with a Rattlesnake but I saw him before he saw me LOL . Anyway good luck on what you decide and keep the coil to the soil

Ha! I know what you mean...I was recently assaulted. I still wear my headset, but sometimes only slip one cuff over my ear. I tend to look over my shoulder often to be aware of my surroundings and any potential trouble from either a person or dog.

'You should use them by right but if you're always on the lookout for danger then what you could do is plug them in and drape the cups around your neck.
I found the "Garrett Clear Sound Easy Stow" phones that came with the Ace 400i perfect for that as the ear cups 'flatten out' and can then face UP'
It's plenty loud and you shouldn't miss much?'
