Headphones Headphones what do you use

I am looking for a good inexpensive headphone. I am talking about 40.00 or less. If I am going to spend 100 plus it will be towards a new or used detector not headphones.
I have several machines so going the wireless route is not very practical unless it was with a small transmitter like the auvio 33-284 which are hard to find. (I have two pair of these bought not working and have had no success repairing them. These have buds but the 283 has headphones also hard to find.
But back to headphones. I have been using the inexpensive Garrett "Treasure Sound" headphones. (20.00) and I like them the best so far for cheapies. They are light and cool for summer wear. I tried the Garrett "Clear Sound" model and did not like the fit at all. so no more of them.
The treasure sound works well on all three of my detectors... from three different manufactures. The only drawback if you kneel on the wire one to many times and you will lose the audio in one side or the other. (yes that's a plug for wireless but again spending 100 plus for wireless is not going to happen for me. I would rather have a yellow 250 for the grandkids.)

So there you have it. There has got to be a "sleeper" out there that is both cheap and decent.

I bought the Detector Pro Treasure Ears. They put a lot into the design of their higher end line at a cheaper price. They are better than the $20 brands that go over the ear, yet not the $120 brands that set so comfortable. You can hear when someone yells "FORE". yet the machine talks to you intimately. Cost $45.

You can't dig if you can't hear it, Cheap will not give you the quality of sound and will not allow you to hear those deeper (weak) targets. A quality set of headphones are a necessity if you are going to get the full capability of your detector.

Cheap you say .............. well you can roll two pieces of paper into a cone shape and stick each one in your ears ............ .this as cheap as you can get !!!! If that doesn't work you can try "treasure wise" headphones which are inexpensive and do work !!!! I personally prefer Black Widows and Grey ghost ultimate$ because they work (sound) the best for me.

These work well and give you the advantage of being able to wear a brimmed hat and adjust the head clamping tension to the most comfortable level
Koss QZ5 Full Size Headphone

I had it with wire'd headphones.
Last Spring, when i stood up to dig, the dam coil pulled the headphones into my sunglasses hard enough to give me a shiner. That was the last straw with them !@%$'n wire'd headphones. Did some research for cost effective and no delay headphones. Bluetooth technology is out. What i settled for was a set of RF headphones with no perceivable audio delay. There's a few out there.

I picked up a set of wireless Rapoo headphones for under $60 and never looked back. In fact, i liked them so much i bought another set for backup.
There is nothing like the freedom to be wireless.

I like and recommend the Rapoos to anyone but only on the etrac unless you can find a set to try on another detector first . On the CTX there is a definite lag as well as on the F75ltd with an additional fuzzy sound. On a MXT the sounds are scratchy and they're a no go on the Deus probably because the coil is already transmittng to the remote and probably intefers with the Rapoo transmitter.
Caveat emptor on the wireless.

Just asked whites to build us a set of Trx/Rec modules that would accept any headphones so we can use what we have and love! If they could pull it off I think it would sell like hotcakes. The post is on the whites forum in the General discussion forum I will try and post a link but they don't like you linking to other forums. Take a few minutes to stop over at whites and post your thoughts on the matter.. more interest there is the better the chance that they will make it happen..Universal Wireless module suggestion.

All i can say is the Rapoos work great on my eTRAC with no perceivable audio delay or lag. That means the delay you experienced is NOT the Rapoos but something else.
Why the CTX has audio lag with the Rapoos? Don't have a clue! Could be sneaky Minelab designed it so people have to buy their expensive version of wireless headphones. Wouldn't put it past them. One more reason not to buy a CTX.
As a rule of thumb, if the detector has a wireless headphone option or requires to use their wire'd headphones only, there might be some spooky proprietary audio thing going on in order to purchase their headphones.

The Rapoos and other RF (Radio Frequency) wireless headphones work with a real time continuous RF audio stream. On the other hand, other wireless headphones like Bluetooth use digital data blocks sometimes re-transmitting data blocks due to data errors, storing data blocks for error checking using up time or other time consuming digital protocols which cause audio lag.

I will say this, the positioning of the transmitter and what ear the receiver part of the headphone is on is important which could be the reason for the scratchiness.
I also had to return one of the Rapoo sets because of severe audio blackouts. It was defective. The big 'A' promptly sent a replacement which worked fine.

If any detector's earphone jack is transmitting analog audio real time which most if not all do in order to use analog headphones, there should be NO perceivable audio lag when using RF wireless headphones.

Grey Ghost, they work great, I love them.

My personal opinion regarding headphones is i prefer to buy the best that i can, currently i use BlackWidows as they cut most of the external noise out, with a decent set of headphones i find that you can hear those real deep feint signals that you could possibly miss with a cheaper set.I am awaare that budget does come into play but they are very important part of a detecting setup.

I do also carry a few other sets with me,usually always carry a minimum of 4 headphones, why 4 well if i am miles away from home detecting for say a long weekend and my main set failed i alway then have a backup set, also the weather can dictate what pair i use as well, for the summer i use the 'wired' xp backphones as these dont make your ears sweat alot but the sound quality from these headphones are the very best for such a low price i guess about $25 but for winter use of course i prefer full cup headphones to keep the old ears warm.

Then i have my wireless XP WS5 phones that i use when detecting with the Deus, these are certainly not cheap and will only work on the Deus but worth every penny,a cheap wireless setup that i really like and does me well are the TDK700 wireless phones, mainly use these when i prefer to go without any wires and also on warms days as well, these are not bluetooth so dont have a lag of any kind and price is pretty reasonable as well.

So my vote would be as you you are on a budget is get a set of the XP 'Wired' headphones as the sound quality from these will blow you away and most folks that use them, and i am not talking about loundness either its the quality of the tones that the machine gives you.

Good luck in what ever you buy.

There are sites in semi or full blown dangerous areas where i don't want to cut out all ambient noise. Say some nar-do-well(s) sneaking up behind!
Once again, anyone who is tired of sweaty ears, tired of the 'dog'd' headphone leash tether or just want to be aware of whats going on around you,
The Rapoos fit the bill. They are not full cup headsets but in real noisy areas, just bump up the volume.

I've used them all last Summer in quiet, noisy and dangerous areas and haven't looked back.

i have 2 sets of garrett master sound headphones..... one for AT other for 250. For $25 can't complan

Have had mine over 10 yrs give or take. When the cable wears out, send it back. While waiting, use the spare cable. Like they advertise. No down time

what type of cord do they have. I have a pair or garrets that was recommended but when I got them they had a straight cord nad it doesn't take much use for them to get all twisted up and shortened. hard to believe that anyone that sells and uses metal detectors would sell a head phone with a straight cord. thanks
