After two years of constant use, I think my headphones are about ready to give out. I am considering Grey Ghosts or Timberwolves. Would appreciate any advice about any quality phones.
Thanks & HH....Chuck

Dixie's. Very nice/Muffles outside sounds,about 99%. Extra nice feature,if beach,surf hunting. Great volume also. <IMG SRC="/forums/images/smile.gif" BORDER=0 ALT=":)">

They look the same as a pair of grey ghosts they are alot cheaper (I think I payed like 69.00)have good volume and sound quality, and have a good warranty.

Chuck,
If you have normal hearing than the Killer Bees are the best value, but if you need the extra volume than the Timberwolf has the best volume of any of the others.
I used the Timberwolf Cubs and a set of the Timberwolf Lobos as a back up while my wife has excellent hearing(dont they all) and has the Killer Bees and loves them.
The Gray Ghost Black Widdows are also very good, but dont have the volume the Timberwolfs do.

I hesitated about getting the Gray Ghosts due to the cost and what people were saying but now I have them, I love em. Some people said they found the volume too low but I haven't had that problem. I have the Ghost's volume flat out, the Explorer Volume @ 8 and the Gain on 10...... but I'm a reasonably young fella with still good hearing so that may makes a difference.....

i would go with the grey ghost NDT they are 126.oo at dixie , the black widow are the same price as the NDT, they work great for me & my hearing is fine at the big 50. headphones are like anything else its what the buyer prefers, someone said the black widows were 69.00 like to know where i can get them at that price my wife needs a new pair . well HH from wisconsin

They're way better than what I was using.....but I still plan on upgrading my headphones a little further later on.

...on this forum complain about the volume of the Timberwolves. Can't say the same for the "other" brand.

My favorite are the grey ghost NDT's.. although all the GG and the Killer bees seem to work fine.. I like the cable replacement for teh NDT's.. 90 percent f headhone problems come from the cord and these you can carry a spare easy enough.. I also have a cord on each of my detectors so I can pop off the headphones from one and onto anther(I have the cords duct taped too the armrest to keep the cable form moving around and getting pulled out of the jack by trress, bushes) If you have prblems with your hearing the Timberwolves might be better as they seem to be the loudest.. I really like the NDT"s though..

The Timberwolf's are a copy of Detector Pro's Gray Ghost series...they just "forgot" to include the quality speakers. The last report I had was Timberwolf was out of business. Regardless, we do not sell products that are copied from another persons product. Would any of you appreciate this being done to you? I wouldn't. However, that issue aside, I've used and sold many cheap, good and better headphones for many years. IMHO, the Detector Pro Black Widow's (Gray Ghost series) are super for the Explorer XS. You have dual volume controls, compatibility switch, limiter switch (must have), extra insulation earmuffs, dual pivot point ear cups, adjustable "stay in place" headband, and a lifetime warranty. I've been very pleased with every model that Detector Pro makes. I highly recommend them. Good hunting, David @ Dixie
