Headphones for the F-75

ihuntrelics!

New member
I have recently purchased an F-75 brand new. I went to try it out and my headphones (GREY GHOST)that worked the night before on my Explorer wouldn't work on the F-75. I then tried my friends Killer Bees, still wouldn't work so then I tried my Koss Phones and another set I had that works in other detectors and stereos and they wouldn't work either. So I called my local dealer and he traded another new F-75 for the one I started with. Well it doesn't work with any of those headphones either!!! Is their a certain set of headphones that will actually work with this detector? I can't afford to buy another pair if they aren't gonna work in this detector that is supposed to have a standard jack. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Scott

Perhaps it is the headphone jack on your detector that is defective. I use Ratphones on my F75, but prior to that I used a pair of phones I got with a used CZ-70 I purchased and I think they were Fisher brand and they worked OK on the F75.

One of the things is not all headphones work on one detector and work on the other one because some are stereo and some mono so they have a stereo mono switch on those you mentioned, so check and see that you try that switch. Mine that work on the Sovereign and my Explorer will not work on my F-75 unless I switch the toggle switch. The Pair I use on my F-75 are the Uniprobe as I like to use a good probe with all my detectors I use and it works good on the F-75. The ones I have been using on my Explorer SE are the Troy Pros and they do not have this switch as they are made to work with either stereo or mono detectors.
Like I say that would be the first thing you do is check that switch on your Gray Ghost you have as it is set for the Explorer and you need to switch it so it will work on your F-75.

That's the main phones I send with new F75 sales. No problem with the headphones or the detector.

You perhaps just forgot to switch the compatibility over on your headphones. Thats the little toggle switch on the headphone.

Many headphones have a compatability swith on them. My Grey Ghoast do. The switch is located inside one of the ear cups.

I have tried the switches on the Grey Ghost Deep Woods with no change at all, not working when plugged all the way in the jack. My Koss & Vangard headphones have no switches to change. Must just be all 4 sets of my headphones don't work with the F-75 but will work on anything else. I guess I've just waisted my money on the Fisher purchase. Thanks for your input.

I have to flip the switch. I also sometimes use a cheap-o, (and I do mean cheap...$10) set of Radio Shack phones. The kind that just set on your ear. I use tham along with a headphone extender that has an inline volume control, and a 1/8 to 1/4 adapter. Iuse those when it is just too hot to use cupped phones and they work just fine with any of my detectors.

So, I don't know about other phones but the SRs work fine. If I were you I would contact the phone mfg and ask them how to make them work. I'd contact Mike at Fisher too, he is very helpful. I will PM you with his email.

Why blame the detector over your headphones not working correctly ??

I just went to my new stock, and tried my Deep Woods phone on my unit. The one's I have in stock work.

What did your dealer do when you went to him to exchange detectors ?? Certainly he must have checked out the detector you were returning.

He has a vested interest in your new detector working. He will get to the bottom of this problem.

Well I had explained the problem to my dealer and he had arranged for someone else to exchange the two detectors because he was simply too covered up with work to do it in person himself. He did try some old White's headphones on the detector he sent to swap out for the first one with and they worked fine. I called him this morning and explained that I still had the same problem and decided that the problem must be 4 different sets of headphones I've been trying apparantly aren't compatible with the F-75 regardless of wether they work on other detectors or not. I guess the only thing to do know is carry my F-75 to a detector dealer & try each set til one pair actually works properly on the machine. Just seems odd to me that none of them will work if the F-75 has a STANDARD headphone jack.
Thanks for your help,

if you switched the switch on your Gray Ghost and still don't work there is a good possibility there is a broken wire in the cable and possible at the plug itself. They will work on the Explorer with no problems, but they may not work on the Fisher or a Whites plus other too. I had the problem with a set a customer brought in and I have heard of it before too. This could be the problem with the Gray Ghost and the Killer bees too and if the Koss don't have this switch you would need a adapter for them to work.
The best is take it to your dealer and let him try a set of his Headphones and if he has a Whites detector try your Gray Ghost and if these don't work on the Whites then you know you have a broken wire in the Gray Ghost unless you got these used and someone replaced the plug on it and didnt connect the wires right. It has to be something like this if the dealer tried a set of Whites headphones on the F-75 you have now and it works.

Its been good to me.

If you want to get together and try my headphones on yours, just let me know. Good to see your detecting, we need to hit it a bit.
I'm headed to DIV8 the 25th and takin the F75, Can't wait to get there.
Take it easy... Jim

Good to hear from you Jim! I have the Grey Ghost Deep Woods but there must be something wrong with them to not work on the F-75 but work on the Explorer II. I dug out an el cheapo pair that are working now til I can get a better set. I'm heading to Fort Powhatan near Richmond for a 5 day camp hunt wed.- sun. and just got the F-5 for Back-up. Where'd ya get that CSA beauty? That's awsome!!!!!!!!!!!! I still haven't got one of those yet! So what kind of settings are you running on the F-75. We'll have to do some diggin' sometime. It will be coolin' down some for good diggin' wheather. I go pretty much every weekend unless something comes up. Talk to you later,
Scott

I guess it has been Good to you !! very good !!! Nice finds.

Good to hear from ya buddy. Good luck on your hunt, I'm headed to DIV8 on the 25th for 3 days of hunting, then should be pretty open to hunt the weekends. The button came local, near where we hunted, across the river. I think you will like the F75, I'm running the gray ghost ultimates on miune with no problems, My jolly rogers worked well with it too. I've talked with Jason a time or 2 online but havn't got to hunt with him yet, maybe we all can hook up and give it a shot sometime. I've dug a few minnies, round balls and eagle buttons with it so I like the way it hunts, the battery life is unreal, over 60 hours on my first set and only on my second set now. Here are a few more finds with the F75. Catch ya later...Jim
