Headphones For Tejon?

Byron_L

New member
Hey Folks, I wonder if you could point me in the right direction with headphone for the Tejon.

After a ten year absence from MDing, I'm putting together another rig. I've got a Tejon coming (thanks Cosmic) and now I need to gather the rest of the gear.

Any favorites in the headphone dept?
I like the idea of the single cuff but I am worried that it might be too much of a trade off. Any opinions?

I've been wearing out the search function, so you folks have already helped me more than you can imagine. Thanks!

Byron (in KY)

Thanks Scully,

Any experience with limiter ciruits and the Tejon? I read one archived thread that made me think maybe they weren't compatable.

Are limiters worth the extra 20 bucks?

i just got my Tejon 2 days ago and like it so far.it is the deepest detector iv ever seen on nickels.it came with stock coil and i also got the 10x12 HOT coil.i used the HOT coil today and was very impressed at the coverage it got! and will try the stock coil tomorrow.i use Jolly Roger head phones on all land machines and like them very well.DD

The limiter on a tejon isn't necessary.. It's more use on a high adjustable volume machine where the surface stuff blows your eardrums out.. I have them but usually run with the limiter off.. Some machines need them..Adjustable volume on the phones is a nice feature.. I have used both the sunray pro gold and the rat phones.. The sunrays are way loud and need the volume control... The rat phones are my favorite, light, comfortable and slightly larger cups which fit better.. By the way the tejon is so strong that its hard to guess a depth on a target because the audio is loud and solid even on a deep signal.. I hope this helped..

Well,
After trawling through the archives and the advice offered here, I've ordered the Killer B's Standard Optima (single volume, leather cuffs, cool green color).

I decided that, until I experience differently, a limiter circuit would just be one more thing between me and the dirt.

I'm still liking the single cuff design. I decided, again at least in the beginning, that focus on the machine and my listening skills were more important. After all, I have no real safety issues here.

I looked at the Grey Ghost line and the Rat phones and it seemed once you got into a certain price range it became a coin toss.

Thanks for everyone's help. This is a great forum. The archive is the single best resource I've found. Not only for purchasing decisions but also for Tejon specific operating tips/practices. Your going to have to start chuck'n rocks at me to get me to leave.

Peace,
Byron
