Headphones for my Tesoro Detectors

Hi guys
I'm in the market for new headphones and looking for the best for Tesoro MD's. Any suggestions?

I'm using the Grey Ghost Ultimates. I don't think you could go wrong with Killer B's or Grey Ghost.

If you don't mind installing a volume control like I did, you can use the Sony MDR V-600.
These are a studio standard headphone, and will provide the best bang for the buck.
Great isolation and transparency, but you will go deaf without a volume control.
I've used this line of headphones since the late 80's professionally, and swear by them.
I use them exclusively with my modded Cibola.
I can show you how to do the volume control mod, so you can change it back at any time if you need to send it in for repairs, and they would never know. (if you can solder)

I tried all kinds with the Vaquero but eventually went for the Chef CP2 SuperLIGHT, world Wide delivery and lifetime guarantee, can't fault them.

Can you please email the mod to me? I've using a soldering iron for 30 years.

Mike, get the Killer B's wasps. They have sounded amazing on my Cibola, Compadre, Silver Umax and Fisher F5.

I prefer the SunRay Pro Golds, so as you can see, it is not a matter of matching the headphones to the detector, but matching the headphones to the user. I have used/tried a lot of headphones in the past 30 years and my recommendation is stick with the ones built to be used for metal detectors if you are going to take the hobby seriously otherwise about any phones will work OK.

Took some pics of my mods today. If you need them, let me know.
I used a dual 10K mini pot that I hacked from a blown car amp, so it fits in the end plug.
Paralleled the two to make it 5K, and doubling the current capacity. This is perfect volume wise for the Sony HP's at full resistance, and still has good range for the internal speaker.
The current rating will be important, since we're tapping amplified, rather than line level signal. Would also recommend the dual set up like I've done, because I first tried it on one 10K pot and it was scratchy when adjusted...now, with both pots paralleled, no more scratchy and the volume reduction is perfect.
The procedure is simple...open it up, follow the yellow wire from the HP jack to the PCB, unsolder the yellow wire from the PCB and place the potentiometer in between.
Let me know if you need further instructions.

Hi Mike I have watched some of your videos and enjoyed them all.at age 81 and a detectorist for quite a few years I discovered years ago with my golden sabre equipped with KOSS earphones used to pick up signals which would normally be OUTSIDE OF THE TARGET RANGE which means that when I was outside of the perimiter of the target I would get a hint that there was something there so I would move overinto that area and Yes there always was. I was so impressed with that discovery I advised MINELAB here in ADELAIDE SOUTH AUSTRALIA of this pheonomina and they tested and then stocked Koss from that day forward and I believe that theystill supply them with most of their machines. Plus I still have three sets of them in different models Try and borrow a set to try regards. Bryan

I'm not sure if they're still available but there used to be an in line volume control for 1/4 inch cable that plugged into the output jack and headphones plugged into it. You could use electrical tape to wind around the plugs that mated the control and the end of your headphone cable so they stayed connected. I have an identical 1/8 mini control I use for something else. And don't forget in real hot weather, you can get adapters to go from 1/4 to 1/8 and use lightweight phones if sacrificing a little sound is OK to stay cooler on the worst days.

Found these. Anyone think they would be good for metal detecting. LOL!

Orpheus by Sennheiser

or

Ultrasone EDITION 10

or

ULTRASONE Edition 9 Limited Edition

Anyone using the single ear models?
Like the DetectorPro Rattler or the Killer Bees Stinger?

I need to hear who is around me a lot of times cause some of the parks I go to can be a little sketchy.
