headphone volume

New member
hi everybody

i dont have the headphones yet but i see alot about the volume problems. i plan on buying some headphones for this and would like to know if i will have to send the unit back to whites to have the volume corrected. i guess i cant send it back by itself without the headphones, i seen in the other post that they want the controlbox and the headphones, my question is do i have to wait till i get the headphones to send them back as a pair thanks keith

You will need to have your detector reprogrammed for the volume fixes to be there. However, the new headphones start up/shut down jingle is not as loud. You might want to wait until you get the headphones and see if you really need to have the adjustments made. If you already know that the lowest target volume setting is too loud, then you can send them back and the new headphones you get - as long as the dealer has headphones with the new software - should work. If you opt to send the unit back before buying the headphones, it is probably best to take your detector with you when buying the headphones so you can verify you have headphones that have the fix Some people find the current settings too loud, others don't. When the unit gets reprogrammed, you will lose any custom settings and programs on your detector. So, it's not something you'll want to do lightly. Any units that have been sent out with the name "Spectra V3" on the splash screen already have the fix.

Rather than sending the detector, etc.,back, would it be easier to buy/rig-up an inline reostate, between the detector and the phones,to control the volume???Possibly a little stand alone unit with in and out plugs to plug into the detector and the phones would plug into this.Wonder why Whites wouldn't just install a pot on the detector side of the phone jack, rather than AJUSTING the whole works??Just my wondering two cents. The complaint is for the wireless headphones. The pot would have to have been put on the phones themselves as it is not the audio waveforms being sent over the air. Could have been done - would have cost more. Each audio device has its own volume adjustment - you can make the speaker super loud, and the headphones very quiet if you wish (with the new fix). But, it is not one control adjusting the volume for all audio devices.
