Headphone short - side opposite wire

Barry NY

Member
Started with an intermittent cut out, now totally cut out of sound.
Anyone have this?
Wiggled all the wires - it seemed that the coil area made the sound come and go, and when on a target the sound came and went too...
Anyone have any ideas?

Off to Minelab by overnight - hopefully they have a fast turn - low tide next week at 8am..............

make sure the plug is all the way in and clean as well as the contacts on the headphone jack. Ive accidentially pulled mine out a fraction during a hunt and gotten intermitent sounds and just push the jack in or pull it out and look inside and see if a piece of plastic or debris is in there preventing good contact.
have had many sovs, never had a headphone jack fail, knock on wood:cheers:

I had a similar occurence recently Barry, are you hip mounting, by chance? I had diagnosed the power cable, as intermittent short and it was defective and replaced under warranty, but it is fixin' to be on my nickel soon! Do you have Excal II or old model, can't remember? Hate to say it, but you could be without for a month, you will need a back-up in this sport, this ain't dirt fishin'!

Hi GH - Excal II - only 6 weeks old and yes i recently hip mounted it - BUT made sure that all areas (where there were wires and connectors) were "tied off" - in other words I taped the wire to the unit so there was absolutely no chance for any tugging to occur at any stress points. I will let you know what they advise about my repair or replacement turntime.
