Headphone recommendation :minelab:

Looking for a headphone recommendation for my CTX3030. I currently have the stock headphones that comes with the detector and the waterproof Grey Ghost headphones. Wondering what else is available that's compatible with the CTX3030. In particular, would be interested in a high end, much smaller set for land use, waterproof not necessary. A link would be appreciated. Thanks to everyone for looking and perhaps responding. :clapping:

I used to recommend the Sunray Pro-golds, but I think they just went out of business. I also recommend the Killer_Bs http://thrpro.com/ available from many detector dealers.

This in no way helps with the OP's question, but I have come to the conclusion that there isn't a One Model Fits All for headphones. Each of us has a lifetime of different hearing damage in various frequency ranges in addition to how good our hearing is genetically speaking. Certainly, there are some headphones that are better quality than others or have a feature (eg, waterproof, unique connector, etc) that sets them apart, but ideally, you'd want to try out each headphones to see how well they fit and perform for YOU. Since that is rarely practical, we all just end up doing what this thread is about: asking experienced users for their opinion/evaluation. And there's certainly nothing wrong with that.

On my CTX, I have used stock Koss (great soft fit for me, but others don't like the fit), Sony audio headphones I had sitting around, Grey Ghosts, and even iphone earbuds with an adaptor. Other than sound level from how tightly the buds fit, I don't really notice a difference in detecting targets. But again, that's Me and it may not be the same for You.
I will say that I cursed the Koss 30's mightly when the plug shorted out, but ML promptly sent me another pair on just my say so. Even said keep the old pair. I promptly replaced the plug with a high quality one and haven't had a problem with them since.

Thanks to those who responded. My apologies, should have been more specific. Not looking for large over the ear headphones. But smaller, not full ear coverage headphones. Perhaps even, ear buds.

If you can get past the sticker shock, probably the best ear buds are made by Westone. (westone.com)

I use several different ones in the summer, especially...my head/ears sweat way too much in the ear muff design.
The Westone's have the truest sound fidelity, and the cables go over the ear and back...like in-ear stage monitors.

For the record, I was just on the phone with Sunday. They are very much still in business!

Are you talking about Sunray? If so, that's great news! Last week I only got a "this number no longer in service" message.

You will pleasantly surprised at the tones from these guys. Compatible plugged directly into the CTX or into the module. Of course they have their limitations in wind and noisy environs but otherwise they are top notch and inexpensive http://www.metaldetector.com/xp-deus-foldable-wired-backphone

I use a pair of skully earphones. Good sound, only cost $35 from radioshack they aren't full earcups, they just set over the ears.

I use a pair of rapoo H 3070 with the supplied Mini USB to 3.5mm cord with a 3.5to1/4 adapter plugged into
my wm 10... Plenty loud I'll tell yah! and no need to charge the rapoo's either. Light weight on the ear and comfortable.
Plus you have the ability to go wireless with you other detectors when needed.

yes quite for sure , just get the gels off ebay and glue them on with some silicone type material I used black gasket goo worked great. just cut the slip off the back of the gels you know where they are made to slip over the pilot headphones.
