Headphone Question...

FooserPaul

New member
I purchased my detector from Kelly Co (JW Rocks! :) ) and I get the free head phones... well... there are days I"ve gotten a headache from those puppies... most days they are ok... but they have limited my hunting time every now and then...

What do you use... and/or what would you recomment... I am near the water and noise a lot... and COMFORT would be my #1 prority...

Thank you in advance...

Paul

I have a set of Sun Ray Pro Golds and a set of the new RAT phones. I like them both. The RATs seem to have a cleaner tone and I like the way they sound a bit better. The biggest thing about the RATs cord. It just does not kink up. I do not know how but it does not. This is all IMHO, Beale.

There are alot of good head phones out there, cheap ones usually have smaller ear cups. You should go to your local guy (if you have one) and try them on. They might be expensive but they are alot more comfortable.

Rat Phones are made by Detect USA, but can be bought from a fair number of dealers. They are a very good phone. R.A.T. (relic and treasure). Lot of good info on them, Beale.

I got a pair of Killer Bee wasps a few years ago and they work great. Very comfortable and with a great warranty. They run about 100.00

They do look like very good phones. I would like to try them. Beale, did you order the Sov mod kind for your X-Terra 70?

Limiters.
For example on a Minelab, since the output voltage is lower, our limiter has no effect on the volume to the headphones. So there is no reason to turn off the limiter.

X-Terra 30/50/70
[work great!] [Perfecto!] [Best I ever had] [Nice quality]
Sovereign GT, Sovereign Elite
[Look, sound, feel great] [Great] [Very comfortable, sound great]

Sovereign note: We have plenty of great reports with Minelab machines. Only the on the Sovereign is where we noticed less crispness. The user will hear more bass and perceive this as less bright. We have a cure called the Sov mod. See the Ratphones tab for more info.
X-Terra note: We have noticed on the X-terra that when listened to with wide range headphones, such as Koss or Ratphones, you can hear a slight hum in the background on the mid tones. This is the machine, not the headphones. You can buy narrow response headphones but then all your sounds will be poor, or select the Sov mod when you order. This will attenuate the circuitry noise.
I cannot find the Sov mod link on this web site?

Hey David on his newest phones you no longer have to do this. The limiter is now built into the phones. The Ratphones Max is the one you want. I know they just work. Very well made also, Beale.

I use a combination. An affordable pair of Garrett's that are really lightweight, comfortable , great for hot weather, and let some outside sound in when I want to be aware of noise for my safety.

When I am dead serious about those "whispers". Sunray Pro Gold. Pricey but worth the investment.

Good luck!
Mike
