Headphone Problem

New member
My X-Terra-70 came with a set of Koss UR30 headphones. I have used it about 15 times seance receiving it in Dec.
Friday while hunting the headphones stopped working. If I press in on the wire at the plug they work but when I let it go they stop. The plug wire on theses headphones is quite small and I'm think due to the size it can not hold up to the repetitive swinging required when using the MD. Can anyone suggest a headphone set with larger plug wire that will give longer dependable service.

Thanks TomB

I rigged a patch cord up for my X-terra and ran it along the rod to the armrest.
I have a plug there to connect my headphones to and not only does it keep the cord out of harms way, it saves on wear and tear from constant movement as now the connector is at the pivot point of the detector and little movement takes place.
I got the stereo connectors at radio shack and used some communication cable for the hookup.
The patch cord is fastened to the rod with velcro and is easily removed.

Now that sounds like a real good idea Felix..no matter what type of headphones I decide on. Also thanks Steve and Beale I'll check out both types. Tom

The headphone cable swinging back and forth drove me nuts and before it weakened the connector and before I chopped it in half recovering a target, I found a key chain clip, it's like a small version of a cabringer (sp?) that rock climbers use. I clipped it onto my belt loop on my right side as I'm right-handed and clipped the headphone cable through it with enough slack so the cable stretches enough when you set it down. This keeps the cable close to your hip and eliminates the swinging back and forth. It's easy to fasten and unfasten and cheap!.

As far as headphones go, I have been using Koss AccuSounds for 5 years now and they have stood the test of rain, mud, getting ripped off my head by branches and having the cable stretched for half a mile. There are some very good ones out there, Grey Ghosts, Killer B's to name a few but make sure you get some with a lifetime warranty. Ron

I had trouble with the long cord on my Killer B's swinging around. I took the velcro strap off of the armrest and used it.

Very good ideas both of them. I am gonna gave to try something like this. The cord does bother me.

Has any one on this site tried cordless on the X-Terras? just wondering, Beale.

DITTO ON THE SUNRAY PRO GOLDS. I got a set after purchasing my x70 and it (other than the probe) is the next best investment for mding... they are comfortable and you can hear everything, plus you can also hear whats going on around you...GH
