on silver umax and others where plug face away. get two right angle sterio ,plugs heat shrink them togather,plug them in,they lay on top ofcontrol box ,headphones plug straight in saving strain on phone wire. cowbell
 
I've never had a problem, but all my headphones have right angle plugs. I've seen a post where the person plugged in an extension and ran the cord up the handle so that the headphones could be plugged in at the top of the pole which some might consider if they aren't satisfied with the stock location.
