Headphone perfomance on a Golden uMax

hi,

I was wondering if anybody had any comments on this topic. I have tried three different sets of headphones, and I'm not sure if it is that I have the sensitivity too high, or if it's the headphones, but it seems as though the sound is sometimes only a quick "blip" rather than a solid tone, even for good targets.

I previoulsy hunted with an MXT, so could it just be that my sweep speed is too fast?

Is higher impedance better or worse?

I appreciate your comments.

Thanks!

When you take the headphones off does it still do a quick blip or does it give a solid ring. I own 4 tesoros and they all ring very solid. If it only does this when the headphones are one then I would send it in and have tesoro take care of it.
Also if you think you are swinging your detector too fast then you probably are. I have missed many target by swinging to fast. Now I just do a slow pace. You will pick up a lot more soft signals this way.

I used several different brands of headphones on my Golden, from Timberwolf Lobos to a $9.99 cheepo set plus a $10 set of Sony earbuds, and never had any problems like you're having with any of them. The quality of the sound and the volume level varied but never got a "blip" sounds with any of them.

I haven't even had it for a month yet, and I don't always get a blip. It does at times give me good, solid signals. I am assuming it is probably due to me not being familiar with the machine yet. Also, it seems to happen the most in "Wide" notch mode, which I tend to flip on by mistake every now and then. I have yet to use it on dry land, so I'll take it out in the woods tomorrow and see how it goes. I will say that after using an MXT for two years, this Golden really does pack quite a punch for it's size. It's nice to be able to hop on a bike with a detector and hit the trails. Very convenient... Thanks for the comments!

Hi MaineDigger,

The Golden uMax is my favorite machine. I have used various headphones, from the Timberwolf Predators, to the $2 dollar Delta inflight movie phones and all have worked ok with it, though I prefer a volume control. It has a stong audio output.

First thing you got to do is figure out the sweep speed it likes. If you still get a lot of cut off type signals, turn down your sensitivity some. Remember that objects at the edge of your disc and at either each of the notch will be choppy or short.

Here is something you might find useful.

Try scanning slower and crank your sensitivity down to 50% then work your way back up. You can lose a lot of good targets swinging fast.
