Headphone Padding Pain?

Tony N (Michigan)

Active member
Anybody else have their headphones cause pain on your ears?

It seems they made the padding for people with tiny ears.
Anyone got a work-around?

After an hour my ear is in pain from the smallness of the padding, so much so I have to pull the headphone away for some temporary relief.

I just got a pair of Black Widows and have used them on four beach hunts in the last couple weeks and they fit great.
Nice thick muffs and they fit tight enough to block wind and surf noise. They have a large enough opening that they enclose my whole ear comfortably inside.
Adjustable volume controll s on both sides and a limiting switch I can use to cut the volume when I’m digging a target out if it starts squawking.
I’m sure there are other good choices and depending on what you have maybe you can replace the muffs on yours.
The pair that came with my CTX don’t compare at all.
they were loose fitting and blocked zero wind noise and had no volume controll
I’m not trying to promote the brand just telling my experience with them.
Try contacting some manufacturers to check on replacement muffs, might be an option

Yeah Tony, even my super worn in Killer B Hornets cause my ears to ache after a couple of hours,I have to shift their position. I’ll actually wear a knit hat and then put them on to cushion them but not in the summer. I’m looking at “hot weather” options...

Tony, I assume you are taking about the Equinox factory headphones. They are sized extremely small. They hurt after a couple hours on me.

Tony, I know this will sound dumb, but you know that the headphones are adjustable, right? If I don't adjust them "large" enough, they will bother my ears, but adjusting them "longer" and I have no issues.

Just thought I'd ask...

Steve

[attachment 357734 20180427_142501.jpg]Bought these today for 3 bucks, seem as good as any i have and feel good. leather and spring steel but light.

Tony, My Equinox phones are uncomfortable from the first moment I put them on. After 15 min.s they have to go. I guess that means yours last four times longer than mine. If you find a solution let me know. Meanwhile I am using another brand phone with the Bluetooth module.

What I did was to cut fat pads of black foam about 1 1/2"X1 1/2" x. 2"" long,
and poke 2 holes near ends to insert 4" zip ties through. Then I use the
Zipties to wrap around arm of headphones and fasten the foam pads there. Then
I cut a curve on the end while getting the thickness just right so the headphones
ear pads just touch my ears but exert no pressure. There is no pain and you can
then also hear ambient sound which was my main goal.

Are you talking about the wired phones with the 600 or the wireless that come with the 800. I personally did not like the fit or the looks of the ones with the 600 they look very cheaply made and the straight cord is a hassle to deal with the fit is uncomfortable. I ended up getting a pair or Miccus SR 71 headphones they work great and are comfortable.

I don't use headphones as they annoy me a lot , but the miss uses her ear bud headphone from her mobile phone as she finds, like most people, ear muff type are uncomfortable at the best of times.

That's a great idea. I'll see if I can hook my earbuds into my wireless receiver.

I'm talking about the 800 headphones. There is a narrow opening between the cups for the ears.

Will the Miccus SR 71 headphones link to the wireless detector?

Thanks relicmeister. It is hard for me to envision what you are saying. Could you take a picture of it and post it?

The Miccus SR 71 are the same headphones used on the NOX 800.

headphones are aptx low latency which you need to avoid a lag.

I need to adjust the CUPS to be wider. They are just too narrow.

I have those too but mine has a 1/4 inch jack. I will have to use my 1/8 to 1/4 jack adapter to use them

Yea, I can see these being totally unbearable in the hot summer months.
I don't mean to be a Debbie Downer but I miss the old headphones Minelab used to put out with the really wide round muffs. They were comfortable.

Yes, they are the Equinox factory headphones. They seem to be sized for little children with little ears.
Maybe they don't realize Americans have larger ears than those in Australia? LOL

I went to your link and could not find the Miccus SR 71

So they have the very same hole size for the padding as what came with the Equinox 800?
