Guys I just got a Diablo uMax and am considering several headphones. Nugget buster NDT, Rattlers and Gray Ghost original or ultimates are all under consideration. I like the idea of the rattlers for....rattlers, but not sure about having only one earmuff? Thoughts? Opinions?

My hearing isn't great-WAY too much shooting-but I mostly have trouble with hi pitched stuff, probably not an issue for detecting..

Great ol' Calrad as sold by Whites,Tesoro and others work great and don't bust the bank either. Stereo or mono with dual volume control makes up for the hearing problems just fine. I have a number of sets of 15-135b(full ear cup for winter/noise reduction) or sh-806rv for warmer times. Over 100+ I switch to Rystal sh-1995,no controls but sure keeps ears cooler and fantastic clear signals on them teenie tiny deep ones. Owned them all and always come back to old school as cheaper by a $100 or so as money don't buy what ya really need anymore, just PR and massive profits-Keep is KISS and prosper-John... Ifn near redding kalif I'll be more than happy to let ya use and educate for free as all I do is-Have a ball-John

Thanks John! I'll check those out.

if you want to wear a broad-brim hat...try the Sony clip over the ear sport types...I have suggested these to hearing impaired and other people...you can hear the signal, you can hear the surrounding sounds, your ears will not be a sauna for fungus and they are cheap. About twenty bucks plus a 1/4 inch adaptor from Radio Shack...and they make a great backup for the regular headphones...

Black Widows is what I like. Very well made and for the hearing impaired. Limiter switch and seperate volumn knobs. Stereo or Mono. Headphones is where you want to put your money after your detector and before a probe and digging emplements. IMO.

Cal rad headphones without the full ear cup are 806,flat but good padding. Full cups are hot in the summer and I prefer the flat padded sh models also because MR No Shoulders rattles quiet like on occasion and full ears mask the sounds. Not a concern in the winter. The rystal are extreme lightweight and sweat free in the summer, and lets ya hear rattlers too. Lotza luck-John

Del ; I have Koss UR30s, Grey ghost, Timber Wolfs, Black Widows and a lot of Calrads and some off brands, imo the Black Widows are the best of the bunch. They ain't cheap but ther good.
