headphone jack modification

Hey everyone, I have a friend who hates to wear the headphones when Metal Detecting. She has an older Ace machine and brought up a good point.

Is it possible to use that headphone jack to plug in a light that would light up when the detector would make a sound? That way she could detect quietly and still know when she has a hit.

Has anyone ever heard of this or thought about it or better yet, done it???

Thanks

Yep have heard of them for deaf people but unless a unit is tightly disced or notched in most areas light would constantly going on. Certainly she is making a mistake without earphones as audio variances can be had with earphones not heard without them...and imagine she would miss many targets especially deep ones...
