Headphone delima

I have been using the headphones I received with my F75 for two years. Decided to try a better quality set of headphones and purchased Killer Bee Hornet. Used them for 3 hours and was not satisfied. I am slightly hearing impaired and was hoping a better quality would make my life easier and more productive. The Hornet is well made, comfortable and loud but I can't distinguish the different tones as well. The tones are not as crisp, the tones actually sounded different and bled together. Does anybody have recommendations for me.
Thanks,
Fred

Fred, I haven't tried them all, but after going through three different brands, I finally settled on Gray Ghost DMC and have been very pleased. All the tones for me come through nice and clear. These were actually recommended by an F 75 dealer. Good luck, HH jim tn

Thanks for your input Jim. The Hornet has a thirty day return for any reason. I hate sending them back but they just don't work for me. Maybe I'll swap them for some Ghost. Do the Ghost squeeze your head LOL?

I just received a pair of Gray Ghost Deep Woods headphones yesterday and used them for the first time with my F75. They are adjustable for big heads and the tones sound good. Ironically, the best tonal sound I've ever had with my F75 was with a pair of iPod headphones. But, iPod headphones suffer from lack of a shock cord and don't block out extraneous noises well. My Gray Ghosts sound a little less musical in Delta Pitch mode than the iPods, but they didn't prevent me from hearing and digging a deep Buffalo nickel yesterday! Good luck. - Jim

Possible human hearing is 20 to 18000 hertz. The freq response for each headphone is listed next to it.

Gray Ghost 200-3200
Jolly Roger 20 - 18000
Black Widow 200-3200
Audio 200 200-18000
Killer Bee ????
Sun Ray ????

How important is impedance. I think an increase in impedance increases volume.

What is the best audio range and/ or impedance for a set of headphones to use with a multi-tone detector (F75/F70) running multi-tones.

Thanks,
Fred

I can't answer all your questions, but I do work down the hall from an acoustician! She said the most people can reasonably hear from 40 Hz to 1.6 kHZ. Your ability to hear the higher and lower ends of the frequency diminish with age. When detecting, you probably do not need to get as low as 20 Hz, which is like a low rumble (blue whale acoustic calls are in this range). In fact, you are more likely to FEEL 20 Hz than HEAR it. Many of those headphones you listed probably include a range at the lower and upper ends that won't matter when it comes to hearing objects in the ground. You would probably be better off viewing posts from various metal detector technology forums to see what people's experiences with different models of headphones have been. Some may be much better or worse, depending on which detector, operating mode, etc. they are used with. - Jim

I use the " Nugget Busters NDT`s", and find them superb with the F75. These are made by the same company that make Grey ghosts NDT`s,and Black Widows.

Does impedance mismatch distort the tones.

Are we better off using headphones with lower ohms to better match the impedance of the detector and in turn have clearer audio/tones?

Headphones having higher ohms might give us more volume but does it distort the tones?

I don't know but would appreciate some input.

Thanks,
Fred
