Headphone Advice Wanted

I lost (forgot) my headphones on a hunt I was on. Tony of TC Metal Detectors was kind enough to send me a nice set of Garrett headphones for free. Although I truely appreciate it & like the headphones I have always wanted to try a top of the line so to speak set of headphones. Not trying to rush the season but Christmas isn't too far in the distance & each year I try to get something for the hobby. Makes it easy for me & my family since they never know what to get me.

Anyways I am pretty set on the Ratphones but like the readup on Killer B

You'll get a lot of opinions, I like the Ratphones. You would have to try them out to be sure what you like.

Hi SkiWhiz !

Have a set of "Ratphones Max" from Rick at Detect USA. They are light-weight and comfortable, neat & trim (no large knobs or protrusions to snag.), and the sound is clear & crisp. The double-ended cord is a plus, i.e. mono plug one end and stereo on the other.

Was impressed with all the technical information provided on the website. True, it's a great sales tool, but also shows confidence in the choices made on components and the electronics system.

Recommend them highly !

Good luck with your final choice

I own a set of the Sun Ray Pro Golds and the new Ratphones. I like both of them. The Sun Rays are very comfy and the sound is quite good. The Ratphones are also very good, and produce a very good sound. I think one of thr things I like about the Rats is the cord. I do not know how it is made but it does not "kink" up on itself! To me that in itself is great. I think either pair would do you well. As to pure comfort it is a draw, Beale.

It's just like Beale says - I'm in the same boat. The Rats chord has memory - also, if ya ever bugger up the chord, you can just get a replacement chord, and plug them into the headset one way for stereo and the other way for mono.
I have likes for both the Rats and Sunray Pro Gold.

Thanks everyone for your replies. Now one more question - should my headphones for my detector (Tesoro Silver Sabre uMax) be set on mono or stereo & why. Thanks! Steve.

Steve,

If you buy Ratphones Max headphones, they come with a standard cord that has a Mono plug on one end and a Stereo plug on the other end. Both plugs are 1/4" diameter ( So will fit the 1/4" diameter jack on your SSuMax). No switches are needed. Just reverse the cord ends for machine compatibility. Compatible with both parallel tip-ring (Tesoro, Troy, Whites) and series tip-ring machines (Minelab, Garrett, Fisher). I got this info. off of the Detect USA website.

Should you need additional technical information on headphones, send a private message to Rudy, Administrator, Friendly Metal Detecting forums, http://metaldetectingforum.com. He helped me with numerous headphone technical questions earlier this year when I was trying to decide between Ratphones, Killer B's Wasp and Sun Ray Pro Gold. You will need to be a member to do that I believe. Route: Go to Home page > Member List > Click "R" on the alpha-strip at the top > Go to page #7 , scroll down, click on Rudy > Click on the "Contact Info." tab > Click on "Send a private message to Rudy".

BTW, Killer B's makes the Sun Ray Pro Golds. Also, I had several phone conversations with Rick at Detect USA. He is a really nice guy and patiently answered all of my questions before I ordered the Ratphones (Relics And T reasure).

Thanks Todd, I have been a member at Friendly's for along time. I know Rudy (not personally) and enjoy reading his posts. I guess headphones are like detectors - there is no best just what works for the individual with the detector they are using. Thanks for everyone's reply! Steve. P.S. My user name is SkiWhiz on the Friendly forum.

haven't used a tesoro but have used several other over the years. your detector will only work in stereo or mono so just check to see which one it works in. if i remember right most i have ever used only worked in stereo.
