Headphone Adapter cord - Ba-Humbug!!!

Last minute check of my equipment before heading to Cancun turned up this problem. I inserted the adapter, connected some lightweight (starlight) headphones turned the ATP on and nothing thru the headphnes, external speaker still beeping. Rechecked the threading of the collar and turned it so the collar was fully threaded and then it worked like it shoud. Odd, because as soon as I plug inmy GGA's or stock phones the speaker is silenced with out having to crew the collar all the way down. Went to remove the adapter cord and the small piece with the pin was left in the detector socket!
I suspect the connection was no good as received, that's why the speaker didn't silence as soon as the pin was in fully. The extra turn of the collar compressed everything just enough to make contact. I had planned on having the lightweight phones available because I know how hot it can get get wearing regular phones in 80+ degrees. Oh well, when I get back I'll send the cord to Garrett. It's a trival thing, this adapter cord but I wanted the flex to plug in any phones I wanted. I'm saying this was the very first time I tried that adapter cord and I'm real careful with all my gear, never forcing or twisting anything.
Getting out of this deep freeze is the primary reason for the trip, a little detecting will be a bonus...pesos in the sand! Last time I was there I hit spill that had to be from one of the concessions set up on the beach to rent jet skis and the tip bucket must of dumped. Rode the bus all week for free with those coins. So I now scope out where the vendors set up. The lower denomination bimetallic peso coins read as iron on many detectors...no disc and dig it all.

I had a similar problem shortly after getting my A T and adapter just a few days before heading up to Mn. I called Garrett and I had a new adapter two days later and in time for the trip. They are so accommodating that I suggest you give them a call, explain you are on your way to Cancun and I wouldn't be surprised if one wasn't sent to the place you are staying. I do, though, now have a backup adapter on hand. Good luck! HH jim tn

I had an old pair of Garrett headphones, cut the cord to the length I wanted and made my own adapter.

Thanks, both suggestions are on target. I'm up at 4:a.m. Saturday to catch my flight so I'll contact Garrett when I get back and just use the GGA's. The GGA's will get pretty warm but that's what beer is for  the idea of using light weight phones or even high quality earbuds was appealing. Two things going for the GGA's are the blocking out of noise - pounding surf and I don't worry about ocean spray. The surf where we stay is really rough so that's why I decided on the ATP - great in sand. Thanks guys!

I know we should have joined you...But two days ago I did dig an engagement ring out of the snow. A Ring Return.
Good luck and watch out for the pretty senoritas bathing in the sun! A Detectorist has been know to trip over one of them.
Perico's restaurant in downtown Cancun is highly recommended by Bob, Ken, Mac and myself...check before you go, I heard it may have closed. A real fun spot, you would enjoy it!
Bring back some great finds...show Ken what the ATPro can do.

I've had one for some time now and just took it off. Same thing. I ordered a new one again but not real happy as this seems to be a regular problem with these things. You'd think for $33 or so they could make a decent connector. I'm making another one now with an old set of headphones I don't need and the broken connect. Then I'll have two. Lucky I don't need a spare ATX. But I do like my Pro that I sold and the Gold. Great detectors.
