[size=large]... AFTER Jesus had risen and returned to heaven. I'm not going to go into a lot of detail or argue with anyone's beliefs but those 11 apostles were protected by God on that mission. Their lives were protected for the duration of that ministry; that's what they're talking about the protection from serpents, poisons, etc. Those protecting gifts and powers were for a short time to help sway the people with healings and miracles. Those gifts (powers) are gone today (but you're welcome to believe what you want). Another time while Jesus was here, he sent the apostles out to preach the word, and he told them that if they didn't have a sword to sell their coat and buy one!... the sword was their protection ~ They were on their own without his protection. As most always you have to read what happened before and what happened after to truly understand the text you are reading. Who and when it was wriiten to and for what purpose. Not for some nut to prove he's saved by waving a handful of rattlesnakes around. You can tell a person is a christian by his fruits. OK, didn't mean to rattle on, I usually don't take the pulpit.
