Heading to the lake in AZ

I am heading out to a lake here in phoenix where there has been gold prospected, I am hoping to find something good i have only had my Quick-draw II for about 2 weeks and unearthed 7 pennies 1 game token and a ton of soda cans but still no matter what i dig up the thrill of the hunt grows stronger.

:usmc: Your machine seems to be something like the 505 I have. So that you do not get discouraged, do not rely on the readings and tones as absolute. Even the top dollar display and tone machines can be fooled. Just use the displays and tones as a tool but learn more about the machines settings and responses in relation to coil swing speed and distance. Think of your SENSITIVITY setting as the gas pedal in your car, the more gas, the more power. Depending on soil or ground mineral and or iron content, you may be able to use more or have to use less Sensitivity. Think of a rabbit in the road at night in fog. Low beam lights you can see it, turn on the high beams and you can hardly see anything but bright white fog. The same applies using too much power and having the most of it reflected back to the coil by the minerals and or iron in the soil, missing the find completely. Too much can also cause your machine to become unstable or to chatter. Many times I have hunted with my 505 with my Sensitivity turned all the way down with no discrimination and have found plenty of coins. Yes I do dig more trash that way but even when the display and tone were fooled, my digging was not if you get my drift.

It's something that takes time to play around with and learn. I hope you enjoy the lake hunt. Places like that can have great potential for a lot of junk and also those prized finds.

The hunt went good i think i got my 17 year old daughter hooked lol but we found two dimes

I'm new to this hobby and using the QD-2 as well. Seems like a good machine but I can always use advice from any and all. I'm not sure about the mineral content down here in southern La. but I know we have civil war stuff all around, just haven't found any yet. Best wishes and thanks for sharing.
