Heading South

Hi all, I'm heading down to Georgia later this month to watch my son graduate from basic training. I want to do a little prospecting while I'm there, panning plus with a detector. I was curious if anyone might be able to point me in the direction of any public facilities where you pay a fee for the day and are able to do this. I'll be in the Columbus area but anywhere would be fine. Thanks.
HH Butch NY.

You can pay to pan, mine, at Delonaga GA. Call the chamber of commerse, They can give you maps and details. Some very nice gold has been found in Delonaga. Grubstake

Not much gold in Columbus area, you need to go above Atlanta to find it. The nearest county is Cherokee County where I found a 1/4 oz nugget there with my detector. One thing about Columbus though...it was the very last big battle of the Civil War. It was after Lee surrendered, they didnt know it yet. Check out some areas to find some good relics there with your detector. Good luck.
