I'm headed back to Longboat key for my annual 2 week water hunting vacation on Sunday....I'll be hunting as far south as Siesta Key Beach and as far north as Clearwater beach during that time....I hope to dig some gold and hunt with some old friends while I'm there.....I'll have the trusty laptop with me and I hope to have a video or two posted during that time.....Hope to see a few folks, and say hello if you see me out there.....Hey Mark,Les,Rob,Ken,and John....I'm coming your way and your gold isn't safe!!....cya there!

Good luck with the water hunting. Look forward to seeing the videos. They are always very informative:detecting:

All the best - Dave

Was in Ft Myers yesterday and you need dynamite and be able to hunt sightless. Hit a lot of trash and got in car and went to the other coast where. I hunted in perfectly clear water for three days and then went to that very stained water and I am not proficient with scoop blind. I guess I need to work on it a little more. The sand was gumbo mud and very difficult to scoop. Like any fish story the local where i parked said you should have been here yesterday it was perfectly clear and gold was lying everywhere. Actually the water part is the truth. I will be back and give it another attempt sometime this year. Hope you enjoy and fill your scoop with gold.

Bring plenty of goof off to get the oil off of you.....

I'm not real worried about the oil slick hitting that far south for sometime (if at all). The winds are blowing out of the south and pushing the slick towards the north Gulf coast (unfortunately for them). I think I'll be ok down there.....Brian

Brian, I,m already here you should turn around and head back..................................Good Luck

My vehicle is loaded to the gill. I be headed to Florida Monday 5-03-2010 for the next 6 days just South of Jacksonville.
Going to test some new area's. Looked at the forecast and chance of rain daily, Then on the way back stopping at Hunting Island in South Carolina for 3 days. made this little water skimmer this week, tired of getting out of the water to dump the scoop of sand onto the beach. Nickname Carolina Sand Shifter. Took about 1 1/2 hours, probably weighs under 3 pounds with nylon rope. Thanks Coca Cola

Nice sifter you built there. But in the sea, it will get hit with a wave and tip over for sure. And dragging a 3 lb. item around the beach is not a lot of fun.

In the dry sand, all the guys I see and the one I don't actually see...me.........just dump the sand on the sand and move it around with our feet. See old Beachnut's videos on this site.

In the water, your best bet is to have a good large scoop to scoop with and then use the water to sift out all the sand. You will be left with larger shells and some rocks but also hopefully a gold ring or two or three.

There are only three things that a good water hunter needs to hunt the waters of the gulf. A good detector, a good scoop and a good wet suit.

Make that four now............... a bottle of dish detergent to wash off all the oil.
