I headed out in the Toenail with my gear this morning in the hopes that last nights storm had stirred things up a little. I got to Horseshoe to find signs prohibiting swimming due to the high surf conditions, it was pretty nasty looking. I kept driving until I got to Shelley Bay on the other side of the island, this is a beach I have wanted to hunt for a while but never got around to it because it is a 40 minute drive. I know that 40 minutes doesn't sound like a lot by normal standards but in Bermuda it's a lot like driving down a country lane at 35 km/ph (20 m/ph), it's bloody tedious.
Normally Shelley Bay is calm as a lake because it is so sheltered but this morning the rollers were coming in because the wind was exactly SSE. I got down to it anyway and was overwhelmed by the amount of trash at this beach, this is not a tourist beach and it shows. The worst part was the tar I encountered when digging deep targets, very nasty.
I found no gold and I found no silver, just $3.56 worth of clad. The highlight of the morning was when a mate of mine took his dog for a walk and brought me a steaming hot cup of coffee, Bonus!

It's typical end of summer bleakness out there right now.
