Head-to-head trials: Xterra 70 or DFX best for me?
I'm sharing my findings, hoping this is useful to others. I'm posting this comparison at this forum, and will refer others at the Whites and Tesoro forum to this post.

**Warning this is a long post, with lots of details,so if you'd like, jump to end for conclusions.**

Why I did this:
I'm attempting to keep the number of detectors I have to two land detectors (and someday one beach/water unit) so I'm torn between keeping my X-Terra 70 (20-30 hrs of use) or DFX (10-20 hrs of use). Hence, I spent a few hours and went to a local park to try the Minelab X-Terra 70 head-to-head with the Whites DFX, and added my Tesoro Eldorado for a good measure. All targets were "as found": that is, I had not planted them.

Configurations used:
Minelab X-70: All metal, then switched to Program 1, with GB Tracking & Threshold on, 4 Tones, Target ID stabilizer on, rest of settings factory default, with stock 9 in. Conc. Coil
Whites DFX: Preset Coin Program, rest factory default, with stock 9.5 in. Conc. Coil.
Tesoro Eldorado: All metal, GB balanced, with stock 9 in. x8 in. Conc Coil

The test:
. First, X-70 All Metal and Program 1 used along 100

I tried a Xterra 70 with their DD coil on a small gold nugget some time ago , result was NO thanks , did not impress me !

A Tejon did ' same small nugget !

[size=large]I'm just quessing here but seems to me you need to sell the x-70 and the dfx. then get the mxt or mxt pro.
my reasoning is simple. reputations. the mxt has the best all around rep. the fisher line also has a rep for deep seeking machines. like the f-70 and the f-75. these all have the bells and whistles as opposed to the tesoros mentioned. as for land and water one may want to consider the new Garrett AT Pro. i for one don't think it's been out long enough to prove itself and has shown to have too many problems straight from the factory. I'm not trying to sell on any machine. this is based on my research for myself to find a very good all around machine. so far for me the mxt still tops the list. good for parks and beaches ( all that i would do ). the dfx, as far as i can see , didn't do or live up to expectations. but does have a small following. as does the x-series minelabs.with all the coils available and versatility's it has i'd
say sell the other two and get the MXT. one drawback to it is that it is heavy. as i said, this is just my opinion. it cost nothing and may be worth the cost.
