I have a White's GMT Gold Metal Detector and am looking for help picking the best headphones to use. I am in Alaska with highly mineralized ground, if that matters.
Price is limited, around $100. Any suggestions out there?

I'm not going to say the Sunray's are the best out there, but I am going to say they if there not then they are pretty darn close! I think you'll really like them.

Must be a sheer coincidence, I just bought the Whites GMT myself at Alaska Mining and Diving yesterday, they threw in a pair of Whites headphones, many years ago I took flying lessons and asked them if pilots headsets would work. He didn't know but agreed that the Grey Ghost were top of the line for most MD's, read the pamphlet, I believe it says you need a 60 ohm impedience headphone with the GMT, large stereo plug and I suggest dual volumne controls.

The problem with the Gray Ghost (or was) is the ear pads are vinyl and the Sunray Golds are leather. The performance between the two outside of the ear pads I think are pretty much the same.

I was going to go with the Gray Ghost until I found out they had vinyl ear cups/pads.

You might be able to find a good use pair of SunRays for $100 but check with our sponsors for the price on a new pair, they should discount some from list. I haven't found a better pair of wired headphones than the Golds.

I may just get the Sunray Pro Gold, they are leather I see, are 150 ohm, have stereo seperate controls and have a noise limiter, I was going to get the Nugget Busters NDT but the Sunrays have leather muffs. I have a tonal hearing loss, my hearing is actually more sensitive than most people and loud noises really give me a bad day, actually makes me nearly deaf so in case I really get a loud blast these should protect better.

Most of the time I use my Killer B 'Wasp' headphones. Excellent fit for comfort and blocking outside noise. They have 150 ohm speakers, separate click-position volume controls, the compatibility toggle (often referred to as a stereo/mono switch), and a toggle to use the limiter or not.

My 'back-up' headphones which I still use from time to time are the Sunray Pro Gold set and they have all of the same controls and data as the Killer B 'Wasp' model mentioned above. They do have a couple of little differences in that they have a little more 'dress-up' of the toggle controls, the two volume control knobs turn in the opposite direction than the 'Wasp', and one bigger difference. The Killer B 'Wasp' has vinyl ear-cups and the Sunray Pro Gold has the leather type ear-cups.

Otherwise they feel the same, work the same, and provide excellent audio qualities. Oh, and they ARE other wise the same because the Sunray Pro Gold headphones are made for them by Killer B, and they are based on the top-end 'Wasp' model with the little physical differences. Shop around and ask dealers for pricing, and be alert for a quality used set to come available, too.

I would go with the leather muffs because I sometimes have to shower myself with DEET here in Alaska because of the skeeters, some years they are gone and some are terrible. I have destroyed several eyeglasses with plastic ends over the ears from the DEET so I am leery of any plastic muffs tring to weld themselves to my ears. Its an Alaska thing, even 40% DEET is barely strong enough at times. My raunchy Swisher Sweets cigars work better.

10-4 on the Swishers...I get the same results with my Black & Milds!
