head phone power question

My question is ... If the batteries are getting low ,around 8 volts, will it affect the volume or the operation of headphones?
The reason I ask is because I was using my killer b's 2 wks ago and lost the volume, when I tapped on them the volume came back. I returned them and the folks said they did not find a thing wrong with them. However they were nice enough to send a new pair to me. I used a cheapie set of phones in the interim and noticed low bat signal so I put in new batteries. I received the new b's and they work fine.
Would be interesting to know this in case I have any more problems down the road.
Thanks to all and HH
