HB2078 Update and More

Fellow Virginians:
Relic hunting and metal detecting (in all its various forms) faces a challenge in Virginia. A bill, HB2078, recently proposed in the Virginia legislature on January 12 would make it illegal (criminal) to detect or treasure hunt on any land without written permission. The same bill makes it a felony to sell any recovered relic or artifact worth over $200 without written permission. This bill could ruin and criminalize our hobby.
Please join with the rest of us in contacting your state delegates and senators and ask them to remove sections 10.1-2307 and 10.1-2308 and to table the entire bill.
The website address for the Virginia State Legislature is
http://legis.state.va.us
Within this website you can read the full text of the bill, check its progress on its way to becoming law, find email and snail mail addresses for your district senator and delegate, find addresses for committee members working on the bill, and find addresses for every delegate and senator in Virginia.
Please do not delay. Send a message to your legislators immediately. If this bill passes you may end up with a criminal record if you are caught metal detecting anywhere in Virginia without written permission or a felony record if you sell a relic or coin worth over $200 without written permission.
Here are the two sections I want to see eliminated.

Cachenut, this is truly awful. I sent my Del. and Sen. a second e-mail. I cut and pasted a more tactful piece from a previous post. I have alerted my detector buddies to do the same and to get on this forum. We can only hope some folks in the government share our hobby. Rick.
