Hay - Round Bales.............

Kelley (Texas)

New member
On the way home from the feed store today, I decided to take a different way home. I turned down a county road that I had never been on before and spotted these round bales of hay.

Picture was taken with a Sony A300 DSLR with Minolta 28-85mm lens, F7.1, 1/640, ISO 100, Manual Mode, harsh lighting. Kelley (Texas) :)

I baled hay once when I was 12-13 while at one of my dad's army buddies in Southern TN. His father in law was using a baler to get them into the cylinder shape, as well as one to make them into big bricks. We were picking up the bricks in the hot TN summer time sun and loading them onto a trailer. Those things are havoc for those with allergies. It looked like my dad and I were crying after 4 hrs of that!

The ones that are like those in your photo look a lot harder to move than they are on flat ground, as long as they aren't stacked like in the photo. I wanted to see if I could get them rolling, and sure enough it did roll. Probably not the safest idea, but inquiring minds wanted to know.:) Nice photo Kelley:thumbup:

It was hard, brutal work and did not pay very much. There was always summer jobs for us boys on the ranches in the area. The most sought after job was riding horseback into the brush to locate half wild mama cows and their calves, and herd them home to a pasture close to the barns. Kelley (Texas) :)
