Hawaii; the big island...

Planning a trip over to Hawaii here in the new year. Does anyone have any tips, advice, tricks, etc they would pass along to a guy making probably his once in a lifetime trip? We are staying at a Hilton on the big island of Hawaii. Mainly I was wondering if I should try to squeeze the ATP in the suit case too, or just the Infinium... considering that the wife and I usually bow the rear axle on my 2500 Dodge diesel when we travel conus, the real adventure is going to be getting everything in a suit case.

I'd say, if you can afford it, buy a golf travel bag, the hard plastic Plano ones cost around $75, and put your detectors and equipment in it. That way you'd be all set for whtever. JMHO. HH. Bob.

Have a great trip. Best of luck on finds. Lots of people on those beaches to lose items all year long. My trips there were before I began detecting but if I get back again........

Thanks guys. I've been reading in some of the older posts that the volcanic soil can be pretty tough for a VLF, so I am wondering if it's even worth taking the ATP and just bring the ILS. I wanted to do a little diving too while I'm there... already seeing that one week will not be long enough.

Controlfreq, I was on the Big Island in 1977, so YOU definitely need to Double Check my response with LOCALS (big Island) or Big Island Tourist Bureau!! But, when I stayed there,
My Tourist Group was told by our NATIVE Hawaiian TOUR Guide, that there are NO REAL SWIMMING BCHES on the BIG ISLAND, so EVERYONE used Hotel Swimming Pools!! Hope this helps, BEST of LUCK, Les Robinson.

Hey Controlfreq,
My 2 cents. Not too sure what NamVetLesTreasureSeeker means by swimming beaches on the Big Island. I went there in 1989 and not being a pool person, went swimming in the surf in front of our hotel along with several other people.
HH!

Wow. OK, thanks guys... talked to some friends about what else to do over there. Pretty sure we're not going to fit it into a week... all we can do is try. :)

Every time I traveled to a plce with a Hotel I have done best right in front of the hotels. A lot of people on vacation like to walk right on front of their hotels and just enjoy.

Good luck & happy hunting in Hawaii. Hope you and the wife have a great time. I wouldn't put my propointer in my carry on bag, tho.

... the digging tool is probably a bad idea in carry on as well... :)
