Goldringer

Just returned from 7 days on Hawaii. Got out for a total of 6 hours hunting. It was not a great trip for finding. Dug about 7 bucks in clad, one silver hoop ear ring, one silver toe ring and only one gold ring. The gold ring is a ladies wedding ring and is broken. My guess is that a rock tumbled on it as I found it in a pile of basket ball sized lava rocks. It originally had 12 diamonds which did check out to be real stones. One of the canardly diamonds was missing and another came out while I was photographing it.
I hunted this beach 15 years ago before others discovered water hunting. My detector was malfuncting so I simply fanned sand down to the lava rock bottom. About 2 feet of sand to be more precise and the crevices were loaded. The bottom was covered with coins from 80 years of heavy use and I pulled a number of old gold rings and ear rings as well by simply fanning. Had I had my CZ 20 back then I would have loaded my keeper bag. I did come away with 27 gold rings with a detector that was barely performing and even if working perfectly it would not handle the overload from the highly mineralized rock. Now this beach shows the signs of being hunted continously by mobs of visiting hunters as well as a flock of locals.
Other beaches looked to be the same. Of course there are still fresh drops to be found by the persistant but those 10 and 15 ring days of some past visits are gone unless you get to a beach where the sand has seen a sudden shift from a passing storm.
On the positive side there are plenty of awesome diggers about to keep your interest. One does not need to find gold to enjoy a great beach.
