Having to give up the hobby...

so I have just listed my Excal 1000, Explorer II and CZ-20 in the classified forum. Anyone looking for one of these please check them out. Thanks.

I hate to do it but my first love is golf and doing both is getting way too expensive. With golf, the equipment is just the beginnig. The cost of memberships and playing is where it really kicks off. It has been lots of fun and I will always be grateful for the pleasure and friends it has given to me. I will still hang around here from time to time. Thanks for your reply and good hunting to you.

Hi, GH. Just don't have the time or money for both metal detecting and golf and golf is my first love and priority. I hesitated to order the Excal and wish now that I had waited. Oh well, someone else's gain. Thanks for asking.

Why not pursue somthing that you could actually profit from. Sounds like someones giving you ultimatums about giving up 1 or the other. Sorry, sometimes I just say what I think.

Never be sorry for saying what you think, GH, as long as you believe it. I've got a pretty thick hide so don't worry about hurting my feelings. No ultimatums. My wife and I have always had an understanding. She does what she wants with her spare time and I do what I want as long as we meet our obligations to each other. I just made the decision, for now, that I don't have the time, energy or resources for both golf and metal detecting. And as far as profiting? You can have some pretty good days on the golf course too. Of course, counting a few bucks isn't as fun as counting gold rings but the contest between you and the course is always an interesting challenge. If you don't play golf it's hard to describe what it feels like to hit a beautiful, long drive down the middle of the fairway or watch a crucial putt break at just the right moment and hear the rattle of the ball in the cup. It's like music. Take care and good hunting.

You're going to kick yourself in the butt later on... Why not keep your favorite machine and sell the others in case you get the bug again..

I know about expensive hobbies and belonging to clubs.. I belong to one of the best boat clubs in my area, own a boat, do a lot of fishing and other things with it..

If you have to sell, sell a couple but keep one.. I could never give up this hobby or any of my hobbies, they are too much fun for me.

Just my POV :)

I see you can disregard this post lol... I was out plowing for 19.5 hours yesterday cleaning up the 28 inches of the white stuff..

Hope you do well in the hobby you love most :)

Don't even think such things, much less say them. That's like saying the terrible "S" word, lol. You know, I'll still go for walks on the beach and when I see someone down there with a detector it will probably make me feel a little like homesick or something. Maybe I'll try it again down the road. Thanks for making me laugh and have a great day.

Get just a teeny bit of snow did you, lol? I know what it's like, at least just a little. My wife is from upstate NY and I have an uncle in Maine. I can take about a week of it and then I feel like I'll go nuts if I don't get back to a warmer climate. Love it up there in summer though. I thought about doing what you said and keeping one machine but just decided against it. Who knows, if I get the urge to start up again I can always do it but right now I just want to focus on golf. Still want to hang around here some though and enjoy the posts and finds the rest of you make. Have a good one.
