Having the "iron grunt" in the prospector mode is a good thing on the Pro..

I used the MXT for many years and it was my go to no frills detector in the relic fields of Virginia. I put my two cents in when asked what changes I would like if the detector was to be updated. Tone id was important and for me a back light was a must. I was getting bored with the "no frills " after awhile and moved on to the latest and greatest. What most caught my eye on the Pro model was the addition of the iron grunt tone in the prospector mode. I love the sound it makes in iron infested colonial sites and how well it hits on small pewter buttons and cut Spanish coins. Most of the ground I hunt is extreme iron minerals and the prospector mode can do well. I use the TDI when it gets really tough so the Pro will fill the gap when hunting ground of lower minerals. The back light is bright and the text is large for those of us getting up there. The ground is hard as a brick but some bench and test garden tests are favorable. The added features to me are a plus.

I hope I keep hearing good feedback on the pro (I'm sure I will). I almost bought a MXT last year but went with the M6 instead for the tones & simplisity. I'm more than happy with it but will probably buy a pro at some point now for the extra versitility. Besides I think I'm ready for a machine I can adjust & tweek on a little.

You said you used an mxt for many years so I assume this was not long after the mxt first came out.
I just got my mxt the first of this year and it's a regular mxt but it does have the iron grunt in the prospecting mode so was just wondering if the mxt did have any upgrades from the time it came out until now?

I used an MXT ( regular on with the stock 9.5 coil) for the first time ( my friends ) at the beach today in the dry sand. Used Prospecting mode, and it did very well. Hit hard and ID'd right on the nickels and coins, and hit most all foil in the 0-4 range. I also 'grunted' on the iron.

All in all I gave it a 2 thumbs up for dry sand hunting. Since I never used the machine before, I tried to get down towards the wet sand but when I lowered the coil it sounded off, so I just stayed in the dry. We were there for a short 2 hours hunt and not really serious, so it was fun.

Found lots of foil, tabs, 4 nickels, 5 quarters, 3 dimes and a bunch of pennies along with some other junk...but NO Iron ! Every time I heard the 'grunt' and the machine indicated iron at 70% or higher, I moved on.

But curious as to if the Pro has a different iron 'grunt' than the older MXT.

I did very well with my MXT on the beach also. I used only the C/J mode and it was on target. Currently waiting on the MXT Pro and was told by White's that I should be receiving it on Tues or Weds. Can't wait. Look forward to providing feedback and posting some good finds. EJ

We're looking forward to it too. Good luck.

Let me rephrase my post. To me it has a more pronounced sound over the one I used.
