Having Minelab withdraw?

Not to bash any detector but its hard for me to use the MXT because I am so used to the Etrac. Is there anything that will make my transition a little easier I bet I have dug over 200 pulltabs and alot of rotten zincs! I want to stick with it but its hard.. HELP ME LOL!! I'm using the Whites 6x9DD coil. I am so used to the tones on the Minelabs!

I am using preset in a kinda trashy sight! Any thoughts or do any of you turn the gain down below preset to hunt?? When the tabs sound of it really bangs hard in my ear..

I hunt with the gain down in trashy areas and it's possible that you are running it too hot. Thinking................. Will get back on this. HH, Nancy

If you like the E Trac, why did you get the MXT, I'm asking not being smart. I just want to know why the change?

As far as zinc pennies, when the MXT tells you it is a zinc, don't dig it. When it tells you it is a tab don't dig it. If you are only hunting coins there is no problem. The only problem is the MXT can't tell you that tab isn't a gold ring, but what detector can? I was hunting with Larry last week and he dug a 22. That's usually a tab. Instead it was a yellow and white gold ring with a small diamond. When he dug it he didn't know it was a ring. That day we were both using our V3's and you still couldn't tell.

The 6x10 has good side to side separation, it just isn't as deep has the 9.5. The MXT is fast, the ID is very accurate, it's sweep speed is forgiving and it is deep. You have to learn the VDI numbers of targets.

What exactly is the part that is giving you the problem? Then we can help better.

I just thought of something, are you using phones with a limiter? The MXT is loud. Rob

The big thing with getting another Etrac was paying the cash again after being laid off.. So money was a factor! I just need to give this a chance and tinker with the controls a bit!! I am almost sure I am over driving the gain and the reason I say that is I turned it down to six and it seemed to smooth out. Do not take me the wrong way! I found some great finds with Whites detectors some of which were with my trusty 5900 Di Pro SL.. I'm just having a hard time ajusting to this beast!! I am going back out in the morning and see what I can dig up!!

The MXT is very sensitive to small targets. The threshold is what some people call chatty, it's not smooth like many detectors like your 5900. I always ran my MXT hot. Usually the lowest I had to run mine was 10. Rob

I've never had an MXT and had been thinking of getting one but a real great deal on an M-6 came up and I got it instead ( one reason being I'm primarily a coinshooter ) .After using Explorers ( I currently have an SE ) I've been hunting with my M-6 in the tones mode and loving it . The M-6 is much lighter and easier to swing than the SE and I can cover a lot of ground faster with it . It uses the same coils as the MXT also . If you get totally frustrated because your missing having more tones you may want to consider an M-6 .
A friend of mine does a killer job finding coins with his MXT, it's mostly all about taking the time to learn a machine .No matter what machine you have (and I've had a few ) there is no way you're going to find the good stuff without digging some junk . Good luck with whatever you decide .

M.L. Hinds, if you are so use to the tones on the E-Trac then trade for or buy a Whites M-6 as it has multiple tones because the MXT does not have them.

Yes, M-6 has multiple tones, but the MXT has no multiple tones.

That was on someones wish list for the MXT, that they wish the MXT would have multiple tones put on it. Maybe they will make an new MXT-2 with multiple tones someday?

The BIG drawback with the Minelab BBS and FBS machines like the E-Trac and Explorer is they are very slow sweep speed machines and cover very little ground in a day to get that maximum depth. BUT the E-Trac has the best ID with the 2 numbers Ferrous and Conductive on the market BUT I do not know if the new Whites Spectra V3 with the 3 frequencies gives it a run for its money with a better ID??

Not to start an argument but I just had to comment, if you are having Minelab withdrawals there is only one fix. sell the MXT and get a Safari:yikes:. Cheaper but works just as well and just as deep. These people know their machines and you will to but I feel your pain I would go through withdrawals also without any of my machines. I know them and if I try any other machine I get frustrated quickly.
