Couldn't resist going back to the bech that keeps on giving. Today I found 2 bracelets, something I have had trouble doing in the past. The top one is marked 14Kt and heavy, the bottom one is probably plated.

The large earring is probably 10 kt and the smaller one is marked 14 Kt.

I am really starting to understand what the Excal is saying to me. I am especially happy about the bracelets because they seem harder to find than rings.

I am finding that there is better discrimination between aluminum and gold than I had thought, exactly what I was hoping for when I purchased the unit.

I still dig a tab every 10 digs or so, just to make sure I am hearing what I think I am hearing and, as a result, I have been able to save time and by-pass many tabs because there are so many of them in the water where I hunt. They love to drop their trash in the water here. :nono:

When at the beach dig EVERYTHING! You might have missed some good finds skippig the supposed tabs!

Are you in Luquillo(sp?) Beach area? My wife and I went to P.R. (San Juan)for our honeymoon 12 years ago and it is a beautiful place. Keep the streak going!

You know, Ace.....I have been mulling over your advice as I hunt for some time now and I have to tell you that I have so much confidence in my Excal now that I am not digging every signal and seem to be doing fine.

I bought the Excal because with my former VLF machine, I DID have to dig every signal. There just wasn't enough of a difference between aluminum and gold.

I think that a lot of it has to do with the type of sand that you are digging in. The coral and shell sand here makes it possible for me to put a lot of confidence in what I am hearing through my GreyGhosts. My settings are not anything special. I run my discrim between 5 and 7 to make most bottle caps null out and that's about it. I always dig a tab on purpose every 10 digs just to make sure I am not kidding myself and to date, they have all been tabs.

Don't get me wrong. I do dig anything that sounds the least bit different than the normal tab sound and I do still pull tabs, but I know the gold tone now when I hear it and pulling silver is very easy. The ones that still fool me are the circular pulltabs. I still dig them because they sound different (lower pitch) from the rectangular tabs for some reason.

I might be missing a few but I feel that I have so much confidence in this Excal that I am missing very, very few.

Happy hunting and thanks for making me think!

Well that's good to hear steve, the Excalibur is a great machine from what I've heard too, just keep in mind to go slow and steady to hear those deep signals, my reccomendation is to keep disc just so that your machines discs out iron, good luck!
