Haven't used the DeLeon for a while

and so I thought that this month (June) I would use it as my "first" machine....a short hunt on the way home from work yesterday...went to "Junk Junction" which is on the edge of "Trash Town"...just had the standard coil on and was reminded very quickly how powerful this machine is...I did't find a lot of coins, as I didn't stay long but went home $7.02 richer. I turned the sensitivity down to 2 (because of the trash) and still picked up coins at good depth; these were coins left by others who thrash this area..none of them were on the surface, and some had been there a long time. The DeLeon still stands up equally with other VID detectors I have, and I know that I have said this before - it is still the best detector I have for identifying iron, including bottle caps. HH

I love the Tesoro discriminators, they are top notch. I have often thought about picking up a DeLeon as I have never read anything negative about it. It'll be interesting what the month of June will bring you, good luck! :tesoro:

Thanks John, took it out again today and had a great couple of hours...21 coins for $16.00 (for me, that's very enjoyable hunting). I'd say about 50% of the coins had been investigated by someone else, but not recovered. The pinpointing on the DeLeon is fantastic. I usually run it with disc between iron and foil, so still get lower range stuff...the D really hits well on our $1 and $2 coins...and all coins give a more distinctive signal than most junk. I still dig a fair bit of junk of course, but with the DeLeon, no bottle caps today and just a couple yesterday. HH

hi furious,do you find running running your detector with the sense at 2 helps to eliminate trash?i have always ran my tesoro's at 6,hunting between iron and foil, ground balanced or otherwise.and i still haven't got a deleon, yet.blowfly

Hi blowfly. Yep, in trashy ground, reducing the sensitivity seems to allow the detector to sift a bit more easily....a similar result can be obtained by using a smaller coil, but I seldom change a coil mid-hunt (do change detectors though), so reducing the sensitivity is the next option.. I find with the DeLeon that reducing sensitivity doesn't lose too much depth, not round where I hunt anyway...it also helps the DeLeon (having preset ground balance) to cope with varying soils which one finds in parks and such. Just this morning I found a small silver ring in a spot where I know I have hunted with at least 3 different detectors prior to today. The ring had been there for yonks, not too deep though (1" -2") and was badly bent and scarred, eventually got it looking reasonable again (at least it looks like a ring now) without breaking it. The DeLeon hit hard on it, even though the ring was small and thin...the DeLeon loves silver.

I haven't lowered the sensitivity on my D around trash, but have found it does very well with good depth generally with the sensitivity in the 6 - 8 range.
BB

Hi BB, one of the reasons I lower my sensitivity in trashy areas is to cut down on the height I have to lift my coil to get an accurate visual reading....the closer I can leave it in relation to the ground makes it easier for me to make accurate passes, i.e. making sure the coil is not going slightly upwards or slightly downwards as it passes over the target. I find it better too when I switch to all metal (if I need to do so) to help the IDing process. Thanks for your input.
