I will try this today but does anyone know if when ground balancing will the detector UP balance to a better soil condition?
If you ground balance at the beach your ground balance number will be very low because of all the mineralization.
But what about when you move to a location that does not have mineralization and you try to automatic balance.
Will the detector ground balance (UP) to these better conditions?

I remember this being covered in a Garrett video. Doesn't really say much about neutral soil. I know the number doesn't change when going from unrealized to neutral soil. Check out the video.

Some of my soil will GB right on 80,, witch is factory pre-set...
I can find a clean spot and GB at 80,,,then run the GB numbers down to 00
and re GB in the same spot, and the GB numbers will go up to 80....
And I can run my numbers up to 99 and re GB and the numbers will go Down to 80...
I can do that on both of my AT Pro's in the auto GB.
So I run what ever GB the auto GB picks....

Now the AT Gold is different.
Pre-set on the Gold is 75..
on the same spot that my AT Pro GB at 83
my AT Gold will GB at 54....

Now a friend had a AT Pro that would like 3 numbers of getting back to 80,
when running the GB numbers up and down and doing the auto GB.
That AT Pro had a problem and was sent back to Garrett,, something to do with
the coil connector on the inside...

All tests were done with the 5x8 coil and same settings.

Hope this helps.

My understanding of the "Auto Ground Balance" if that you do the press - hold - bounce and get a steady tone and you are now balanced. However, if you move to a different location you still may need to redo the procedure. I tend to re-balance every 30 min or so or if the machine gets noisy or erratic.

Garrett has added the ground balance window which does give the machine the ability to "spread" the effective ground balance over a range of numbers so I would think of this as a semi-auto ground balance. Check pgs 18-21 of the manual pretty good description. The example is if you GB at 83 and have the window at 2 the machine will GB between 81-85. So this feature does give the machine some working room or ability to adjust. The default window is 2 I've fooled around a bit with this and used 3 - 5 and it did smooth the operation of the machine out a bit in high mineralization.

In the manual mode you can set the ground balance slightly + to enhance small targets or - to eliminate hot rocks.

You must be talking about the AT Gold.
Sorry I wasn't more clear in my original post.
AT Pro GB instructions are on page 31/32
But it's basically the same'. I too check every once
in a while to be sure she's running optimally.
Thanks buddy!
