........cause it's been a while since I found anything really interesting. Today, howevr, in a school yard I found a lapel pin with the back pin broken off that reads "White House Medical Unit". My thought was that it was a local ambulance service or some such thing, but no - it you Google it, the only thing that comes up is exactly what it sounds like- The doctors that are responsible for the President and any staff or visitors to the White House. Still scratching my head on how it got to a middle school yard in NE Wisconsin. Then there was yesterday. I went to a neighboring town and checked a small park that I've never found much at, but it's right on the highway and right on my way so i decided to check it real quick. Went to the tot lot and found a new Andrew Johnson presidential dollar. About a foot away I found a second one and before I was done I found 8 of them. Trust me when i say I VERY carefully checke every square inch of that tot lot and even 10 to 15 feet around it on all sides. There was also $3 in quarters and 10 dimes. For the first time ever, I went through a tot lot and didn't find even 1 penny. I was pretty happy since it was the best day I'd had in quite a while. Until the last couple of weeks I had the only active metal detector in town but now there at least two others. No wonder pickin in gettin a little sparce. Happy Hunting to all.\\

[size=large]congrats on those pres. dollars. am having the same growing pains here in my small town. started last year with one person here and then another. now there's at least 22 known hunters in this little area and the targets are getting scarce. was just talking to my brother in another state. he's looking to get into detecting. so far he's found out only one guy comes from out of the area three times a year to detect his town. his town was founded around 1834. he already has permission from the mayor, the parks guy and four or five private homestead sites to hunt. he don't even have a machine yet. he goes to a hundred yr. old church and they gave him permission also. this is what is called feast or famine. so far you're holding on.

i havnt hit one of those in a few weeks! theyve been rare this year. I am seeing some newbies out too...one guy in particular has the fever...I've talked to him a couple of times, and he is really addicted bad, lost 25lbs, gets up early and hits it hard, says he cant wait to get up in the morning and go before work, says he has dreams about detecting, made his own probe, thinking about differrent gadgets that would be handy to have, etc. (sound familiar?)
I told him about this site, and how helpful it would be to him, maybe someday he will show up, and you Garrett guys will have another brother to pal around with. swings an ACE 250, drives a green van..

I just love it when that happens! We are also starting to get a lot more people that detect in this area so it is not happening as often as it used to. So Enjoy the moment.

Great hunt!

Jerry
