Have you tried the Vibra-Tector 720?

Hello all - this is a great forum.

Treasure Products (maker of the popular Vibra-Probes) has a small handheld underwater PI detector. It only has a 4" coil and the manufacturer says it will find a nickel at 3" but the size and vibration feature is something that is perfect for my needs.

The list on it isn't too bad - about $120 (US). Before I buy it, I was looking to see if any of you have tried it, and if so, if you'd be willing to share your experiences.

If you haven't seen it yet, you can check it out at http://www.treasureproducts.com/vibratector.cfm

Thanks in advance.

It's a solid, trouble-free little unit and alot easier to handle than a full sized water machine for snorkeling.

Depth IS a limitation... maybe 3" on a nickel, more like 2" with mine. Still, it does work and has found 2 gold rings for me so far, some silver and alot of coins.

Cons: Being a PI unit it will hit on the tiniest piece of iron (an annoyance). Also, it won't hit small gold: chains, open toe-rings etc. well at all. Even foil is all but invisible to it (not a good sign).

Still, it is what it is. Good choice for sticking into an overnight bag or backpack in case the opportunity for a water hunt arises. Kids like 'em too!

Neither will the VibraProbe.
