Have You Sharpened Your Digger Lately?

This was brought up in another thread about digging good clean plugs. Not only is sharpening your digger important for that, but it also makes cutting plugs of course a lot easier to do. Particularly when breaking through the sod. I let mine go for about two years but just sharpened it a week or two ago and it does make life so much easier when digging. Just curious if anybody has or hasn't sharpened their diggers?

I sharpen mine when it gets dull. They cut instead of tear the grass roots much better when sharp.

I just use a table grinder in my garage. Just be careful not to get it too hot as that can cost the steel it's temper and then it might bend when prying up a rock or something. Just remember, only sharpen one side of the thing. At least that's what I've always been taught when sharpening lawn mower blades and such. I sharpened the outside curve of my digger because it was easier to do than the inside of the curve.

Just toss a couple files in your rig along with your other detecting stuff. A couple good firm runs along the blade edge with a medium course file will re-establish a good edge in just a few seconds.
You aren't skinning a deer or shaving with your digger so it really doesn't need to be super sharp yet a digger with a edge to it cuts those grass roots much easier and quickly.
