Have you ever had a sleepy looking cashier give you to much change back, I did today after .........

work. I went to Piggly Wiggly to do some shopping, the young cashier checked everything and the total came to $83.26, I notice she looked sleepy and was slurring her words and moved real slow, infact if she moved any slower she would have been standing still

I handed her four 20's and four one dollar bills, $84.00, this seem to confuse her, she looked at the list of items that I just brought then open her cashier draw and couldn't figure out how much change I should get back, at this point I knew she was confused but I didn't want to say anything to tic her off, but how hard can it be, change due back 74 cents

Well she finally asked the young cashier working next to her, they both look at the list of items and after about two minutes they got it, so I thought they did

She open her cashier draw again and pulls out three 20's, three one dollar bills and change and trys to hand them to me

I stop her and tell her I shouldn't be getting back $63.00 and change, she gives me this look of shock, you did give me a hundred dollar bill didn't you, I reply no I didn't but even if I did I shouldn't be getting back $63.00 and change when the total came to $83.26, the lady standing behind me couldn't believe what was happening and just shook her head at the young cashier and smiled at me

I told the young cashier that the total was $83.26, I gave you $84.00, I should get back 74 cents, that confused look came back but she gave me my change of 74 cents and thanked me, I told her you would have come up short at the end of the night and that wouldn't be a good thing, that look of confusement really got confused at this point

Driving home I thought to myself, two young cashiers and both couldn't figure out what the change was, I mean I made it simple for them and gave them $84.00 on a total due of $83.26, I wonder how many other times today she did this

I used to work a drive-thru at a fast food place. You can't even use the change function, since you rang in two other sales by the time the first got to the window. You had to learn how to "count up" for the change. I could make change for any amount in a minimum of 5 seconds flat.

If she was that sleepy maybe she took a few hits on some weed in the ladies room before work. She is very fortunate that you were honest about the change because if her cash draw did not balance at the end of her shift then the money would have come out of her paycheck.

Back in the days of the ABC's and 1-2-3's they taught simple math and counting skills......no calculator or computer. Kids today are taught to rely on a little machine to do their thinking......that is a sad state of affairs when a kid cannot do simple counting of change......I often wonder where the brains are of today's educators.

give her five 20's but for some reason I decided to keep it simple thinking she would check me out faster, man, was I wrong!

.... was to go and ask to speak with the store manager privately ... not the front end manager, the store manager, and certainly not in front of other customers or store staff ... just the manager!

The girl was either on drugs ... a no no for which she should be fired, or just plain too stupid to be trusted with cash ... needs to be re-assigned to being a floor sweeper, gum scrapper upper, cart return person, bagger, box stacker, or lobster tank poop remover.

The cost of all employee errors shows up in the prices we all pay.

Don't be too quick to judge / blame the teachers bobbie. They are doing what the local ELECTED school boards (State Departments of education .... all administered by ELECTED officials) are telling them to teach.

Parents vote as well as folks that don't have kids or kids that are grown and out on their own. Nationwide our school systems are teaching to the test that generates funding for the schools and teach / spend money on lots of feel good services and programs that don't get the job of EDUCATION done.

People who don't vote, or voters who do not change things earn what they get. Let's not forget the impact or lack of impact on a child learning from parents. Far too many parents just look at school as a safe place for their kids to be while they are at work.

Little Johnnie or Susan are never held accountable at home for their behavior or their individual actions at school ... it's always the teachers fault. How many of us had parents that actually looked at and questioned why we were not getting better grades then home tutored us until the grades improved or punished us until behavior improved? Today, not too many parents seem to want to be involved.

Parents can't go with the "it takes a village to raise a child" crap. It takes parents to raise a child ... not the school system.

Sure there are bad teachers out there just as there are bad nurses, cops, business owners, etc. Most teachers do a very good job within the restrictions placed upon them. Parents who see a bad teaching situation going on need to do everything possible with that schools administration to change it. since teachers are protected in most areas by the union or County government, it's tough to fire one .... but it can be done and is a real wake up call to the slackards, and a welcome situation / morale booster for all the good teachers to see.
