Have I lost my marbles?

John (Ma)

I am selling my Minelab Etrac and will be using my MXT as my primary detector. Have I lost it?

No, it makes sense to me. :detecting: HH, Nancy

I'm with Nancy . . .and the great thing is the MXT somehow seems to find marbles on a regular basis too !?!

Yes, doesn't make sense to me..............

Just kidding of course, the MXT is a great easy to use all around detector............:clapping:

I can understand why. It is like walking with a fat broad tied to your arm. After a while, you can become tired. LOL

I knew when the MXT came out in 2003 it would be a hard machine to beat. I borrowed a friends to use whenever I could, and now after 8 years I have my own. The only way it's going anywhere will be if it has to go back to Whites for service !

Make good sense to me. The MXT is all I ever want.

[size=large]same here, except it's my exployer se pro. i just enjoy my new MXT PRO so much better. it just feels like quality.
my back-up is my XLT.. what i think of as the sister to the MXT.

life's funny i have an mxt and don't care for it,I'm diggin nothing but trash and rusty bottlecaps for quarters, found a gold ring at 4inches,but any detector could do that,.Iwas thinking of an e-trac

[size=large]any machine might have detected the ring but how many owners of those kind of machines can interpet the signal it gave off?
i am finding that manufacturers hold back on making the best machine. the one with all the bells and whistles. i'm guessing it's cause it would be too confusing for people to constantly checking every bell. they all have something we wish the other had. you need to find the machine that's the most enjoyable for you to use and then learn everything about it. if you haven't already.jmho

If you are being fooled a lot by rusty bottlecaps, I would guess you're are using DD coils. Imho, the 9.5 or 5.3 are much better at discriminating out the crap.

Also, don't be afraid to run your gain as high as possible.
I run mine maxed out 90% of the time, only turning it down a little when I'm in heavy trash because of all
the shallow targets and the need to get better separation. I kind of check the trashy sites with both high gain and then low enough gain to be sure I'm hearing all targets separately...if that makes sense:)
Sometimes a good target next to trash comes through better with high gain... sometimes better with lower gain.

Anyway, I believe the the 9.5 and the 5.3 are better at giving more accurate target id than the DD's. If you're not using the DD's, then I guess that's not the problem

Hope this helps,
Matt

One more thing... I use the Relic mode 99% of the time;)

The bottlecap ID confusion is the main reason my D2 went from being my #1 or 2 coil down to #4.

i have 3 coils for the mxt ,all work well, but i just can't find the love for this machine, i have used it for a while just in the coin and jewlry mode,i don't like tones as i feel that type of hunting is a way of cheating of sorts and not true detcting that people did years ago.I feel the same way about new sports eqipment and enhancements. It just may be i'm just too dumb for this machine and should stick to easier to use.

[size=large]to get back to the real basics all you need is a sharp stick. just go around poking the soil til you find your treasure.
anything since then could be cheating. some folks feel the same about fishing and lures or fish finders ect.
but to stay on course here and be fair to John (ma) we just need to agree on whether he has lost his marbles or not.
bottom line for me is a no vote. not losing marbles.

I am not saying the Etrac is a bad detector as it is an excellent one! However, for what I do and the time willing to truely put into learning the detector, I like my MXT. I may miss a few of those really deep finds the Etrac awarded me, but the MXT seems to fit my style better. Believe me, the Etrac is an amazing unit, but if you feel the MXT is to complicated, then you don't want the Etrac. :beers:

I own both the etrac and mxt. Both are very good machines. I use the mxt for relic hunting and the etrac for deep silver. You will regret selling your etrac.

Nothing wrong with selling your E-track and using the MXT.

I don't think anyone can complain about Whites service,
MXT has an outstanding reputation.
