I never knew there was a GTI 2000. Has it been out for a while? What is the difference between the 2000 Vs 2500? http://www.treasurenet.com/garrett/2000.html
 
Rich: The 2000 was the first imiaging detector, it came out prior to the 1500, which was the second
 
When I purchased my 2500, there were also several 2000s available on eBay. I emailed Garrett to find out the difference. As I recall, there were only two differences - the 2500 has a backlight while the 2000 doesn't and the other - I can't remember <img src="/metal/html/cry.gif" border=0 width=40 height=15 alt=":cry">

Yeah I field tested the 2000 years ago when it first came out. The 2500 is just a hopped up version of the 2000.

I have one (2000).
According to Mary, the differences are:
1-The handle
2-Backlight on 2500
3-2500 has the powermaster dsp.

Don't have a 2500 to tell what difference there is in the handle.
Don't TH at night.
The 2000 goes deeper than I wanna dig, so I don't miss the PM dsp.
Mary told me a 2000 could be upgraded for $300....Whew!! too much!

The 2000 I bought came with the 9-1/2 Scorcher coil. When I looked at
the bottom of the coil, there were little cracks and pinholes.
I asked Mary about the defects and she said they had problems with
the epoxy sealant. She told me to send it back to the factory, which I
did, and in a weeks time, I received a new 9-1/2 Imaging coil for the cost
of shipping the old one!
This was only one of the amazing customer service experiences I've had
with the Garrett Co.
Oh yeah, and Mary Penson, simply fantastic!

BTW, I am new to this forum and I do enjoy reading all the knowledgeable
info on it. I'm mainly a beach hunter here in NY.
Just heard on the news that Jones Beach had a record number of people
this Memorial Day weekend...........340,000 people!!
Gee, if every one of them dropped just a penny, that would be $340!!

Yeah I field tested the 2000 long ago. Think it came out in 97 or 98. The 2500 is just a tweaked up version of the 2000. Both are great machines.
