Have I been a fool?

I love my CXIII, but have never found it to be a tremendously deep seeking machine. I recently read a reply to the pinpointing post by danimal saying he detects with the ACE 250 in the all-metal (pinpointing) mode for added depth. It got me thinking that I may have been missing deeper targets by using the CXIII in MOTION MODE. I began to read old reviews, some saying that with the standard 8.5" coil, the depth range of the CXIII is about 6 inches for a US Quarter in "coin" mode, but jumps to more than 10" in the NON-MOTION, ALL METAL MODE.

Has anyone had experience with this (or other) Metal Detector in NON MOTION MODE?

Should I begin making a list of all of the sites I have hunted in motion mode, and begin to back track using my 12.5 inch coil in the NON MOTION MODE??

No you are not a fool. Some of my targets with the ACE 250 don't always fair so well when I switch to pinpoint mode. The "All Metal Deepseeking Mode" on your CXIII should be the equivalent of the pinpointing mode.

Carry on hunting Camman

I often try the pinpoint mode when hunting, but
I've never actually done any testing to see just
how deep mine might go on say a quarter. But it's
at least as good as the ID mode, and probably is
slightly better. My 9x12 ace coil will hit a quarter
maybe out to about 11 inches max on air tests on ID
mode.
So the PP mode should be at least that. I know when
prowling with PP mode, I often hit on what seems to
be large metal pieces, pipes, etc that are pretty deep.
Course, the larger the target, the deeper it can go.

you are metal detecting so no fool for me on that one.

But.....yes the non motion all metal mode off the cxIII and GTI 2500 is extreme deep and much deeper than the motion modes. But if you use it you don't have Target Id anymore. The question is: Did all and deep or leave the junk in the ground and loose some depth.

If the CXIII has the MOTION All Metal Mode use it. It will still get better depth that the other motion modes and you still have target Id (like the Ace 250).

For relics go for the NON-motion All Metal Mode.

All metal mode will go deeper but expect a noisy unit picking up everything..For those that don't know the GTI 2500 all metal mode that ID's is one of the deepest detectors around..

Non motion all metal on your CXIII will go deep but
as it does so you will be getting out of the I.D.
range. If you just want to see what's down deep
go for it. I believe the CXIII will get you there
but like I say with no I.D.
Motion all metal will do better than the
other motion modes and still I.D. up to a point.
I usually hunt in a motion mode and cross check the
target in motion all metal. Have used non motion
all metal for short periods hunting sports fields
but be ready to dig it all as it's quite sensitive.
For relics and such I believe that non motion all
metal would be awesome. Just hope you like to dig.
Good hunting to you Camman...........Gene

According to the manual, there is target ID in Non-Motion Mode, but not the deeper targets:

Use of the LCD Display will give an indication of what kind of metal has been detected and can eliminate some needless digging on shallow targets. Meter identification is less reliable on deep targets.

I believe target I.D. in nonmotion all metal is only
going to register as deep as the motion modes
on your CXIII Camman. If you want to go really deep
with no target I.D. nonmotion all metal is the way to
go. I have many detectors and I have the CXIII for
the excellecnt discrimination on the sports fields
that I hunt and the absolutely super-quick pinpointing.
Spend less time pinpointing with the CXIII than any
detector that I own. Works great on sports fields
once you get it balanced right. Not the deepest
but deep enough for what I am hunting. HH.....Gene

All-Metal "mode" when used in motion (regular hunting) is NOT any "deeper" than any of the other modes.
All the different "modes" on the Ace250 do is notch out audible responses. I repeat. All the different modes do (all-metal,jewelry,relic and coin) is eliminate the sounds you hear when a target with a certain conductivity range would normally trigeer an audible response.

Your sending coil puts out the same amount of power regardless of sensitivity setting (100mw max by FCC rules I think). Turning sensitivity up only increases the receiving coil's ability to hear faint returns (often at the expense of excessive chatter or the inability of the field's focus to be small enough to discern individual targets in trashy areas)
