These are the types of things we hope to find but so rarely do. Congratulations on gun. The guys on the relic forum could probably help identify and date that piece, it looks really old 1600's??

That is a remarkable find! One in a lifetime, probably. Be sure to put it in water and preserve that thing. I don't know what to tell you about preservation, but you probably already know that it will fall apart soon if you don't do something. Good luck with that!
